Conflict Managers – Ready for Action!
We are happy to have the Conflict Manager program at Washington Street Elementary School. Conflict Managers are fourth and fifth-grade students who serve their school by helping other students resolve conflicts and by assisting students in many other ways during lunch and recess times. Each fall and winter new students are chosen to become Conflict Managers. They are chosen by their classmates and their teachers. The Conflict Managers are trained and scheduled for duty by the school counselor. Conflict Managers help students express their feelings, come up with ideas to solve problems, and find their own best solutions. The Conflict Manager team is a great asset to our school.
We would like to congratulate and thank the following students who will be Conflict Managers for the first half of the school year at Washington Street Elementary:
Ellie Bronkema, Eli Bushee, Maisie Smith, Hayden VanderKlok, Alexa Andrade, Brynlee Cuddington, Raegan Hanson, Maddison McPherson, Taylor Arnsman, Adelyn McGrail, Sam Sposato, Hudson VanderKlok, Addison Currie, Anna Djerf, Adam Bowe, Carter Root, Lily VanDyk, Quinn Dykstra, Chase Gleason, Aubrey Harris, Landon Creech, Emma Rainey, Noah Szczembara, and Emma Truax. Way to go!! We are proud of your commitment and thank you for your community service.

What is Capturing Kids' Hearts?
What is Empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person’s feelings. Instead of focusing on how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
Why focus on Empathy?
- Empathy builds positive classroom culture. Empathy empowers students to learn to understand each other to build trust and safety in the classroom.
- Empathy strengthens communities. Empathy helps students strengthen their relationships with classmates, other students, and adults at school, and at home.
- Empathy prepares your students to be leaders in their community. The best leaders understand the people they lead and are able to show they care.
