Asa C. Adams School Newsletter
December 2023
Dear Asa Families,
Here we are in the month of December! It is hard to believe that we are more than 1/3 of the way through the school year. Holiday decorations are sprouting up everywhere as families in our area begin their thinking about holiday shopping, vacation plans, and dinner menus. Many of our evenings and weekends will be spent getting ready for holiday celebrations. While visions of sugar cookies, shopping and peppermint mocha may arise at times, our Asa students still continue to have math facts, writing assignments, favorite books and science experiments dancing through their heads.
Please help us encourage our students to stay as focused possible and include homework and study time in your holiday plans....at least until December 21st! Looking for a few gift ideas, especially ones that don’t cost a lot of money? This holiday season give your child and family the gift of time. Relax by taking a wintery nature walk at a local preserve. Visit the local library. Enjoy a meal together as a family. Have a night in with the family and play a favorite board game. The most important things in life are family and friends, so this holiday season make an effort to spend quality time with both. As parents, you are extremely important to your children. This month, make it a goal to spend an evening, day or weekend with them.
Remember, bigger is not always better. The time you spend with them does not have to be at a jump park or anyplace fancy!! It can be reading a book together, decorating cookies, or telling stories together. This is the time to provide your child with the memories they will never forget. The holiday season is all about giving, and the quality time you spend together can be better than any gift wrapped up in sparkly holiday paper!
Please remember that students should continue to read, write and practice their math facts over winter vacation! Reading and writing can be about topics they enjoy and shared with parents and siblings alike. Students can also write some resolutions to ring into 2024!
We hope that you have a truly wonderful holiday season and remember we are here if you need us.
Sincerely,
Ms. Wyman and Ms. West

Students in grades four and five will have their first opportunity to share with our student body the hard work they have put into band and orchestra this school year. Families are welcome to join us for the daytime assembly at the Orono Performing Arts Center at 1:15pm if you are available. The grades four and five band and orchestra students will perform again next spring during an evening event.

The grade three chorus will begin at 5:30pm. Students should arrive by 5:15pm.
The grades four and five chorus will begin at 6:30pm. Students should arrive by 6:15pm.
We hope that separating the two concerts will allow for ample seating for all who wish to attend. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Orono Performing Arts Center this month.
Coats, mittens, sweaters, and water bottles oh my!
Please take the time to visit the lost and found if your child is missing any items.
Additionally, another key way for keeping track of your child's items is to make sure their name is labled somewhere on the item or on the inside tag.
Student Council
12/8 Orono Pride: Wear your Asa Swag, Riots Gear, Orono Clothing, or something Maroon.
12/21 Holiday PJs or Favorite PJs: The choice is yours.
Also, the November Food Drive has been extended to December 8th. If you would like to contribute, please feel free to send in a nonperishable food item.
Signing Students In and Out
We have a new procedure for students arriving after the start of the school day and being dismissed before the end of the school day.
If your child is arriving after 8:35am, please accompany them to the office to sign them in and for your child to pick up an arrival slip for their classroom teacher.
Additionally, if your child is being dismissed before 2:45pm please come into the building to sign them out.
Asa C. Adams PTO Corner
Dear Asa Adams Families,
Happy December -- can we truly be in the thick and throes of the winter holiday season? We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break -- and have a beautiful suite of winter holidays on the horizon, in whatever form they take!
Again, we are so heartened and happy with the level of engagement we've experienced this year and would love to see that energy and enthusiasm continue with gusto as we approach a very busy time of year for the Asa PTO! Below, we have listed a number of opportunities for you to help out your PTO as we approach this lively time. Thank you for your donations of time, expertise, beautifully crafted items, enthusiasm, and vision. If you haven't had a chance to play a part in our activities, we welcome your participation -- and there is no better time for us than the present!
1. Paramount among the upcoming PTO activities this month is the annual holiday craft fair and marketplace for the children at Asa -- slated for the 11th and 12th of December! We are in the two-week countdown to this beautiful annual event, and we simply cannot make this event happen without your donations of time, crafted items, or monetary support. Here are two ways you can help: (A) If you are donating crafted items, please turn these in before 4 Dec! You can place completed items in the purple tote located in the front foyer of the main Asa entrance (near Mr. Matt's window), or send us an e-mail at asaadamspto@rsu26.org to arrange details for drop-off; and (B) If you would like to help at the craft fair on Mon 12/11 or Tues 12/12, we still have a few slots available!

Volunteer at the Craft Fair --> https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F4FABAA22A5FE3-craft4
** Gift tags for the craft fair will go home in children's backpacks next week (i.e., week of 4 Dec), so keep an eye out for these -- and chat with your kiddos about the gift recipients that they would like to select! Each child may select up to five gifts for special people or pets in their lives.
2. Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser on 12/13 -- Take a break from cooking! Texas Roadhouse (located at 504 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor) is generously donating 10% of all sales to Asa Adams PTO -- dine in or take out! (See the attached flier)
3. While you're shopping at the Hannaford Grocery in Old Town this month, consider purchasing a few reusable bags in which to stow your purchased items -- and support our Asa PTO! More specifically, Asa Adams has been selected by the Store Leadership Team at Hannaford to benefit from the Community Bag Program. Our PTO will receive $1 from every $2.50 reusable Community Bag sold during the month of December 2023. The two supported bag designs are depicted below:
Finally, as we consider the topic of gratitude during these December days, the Executive Committee of the PTO would like to extend profound gratitude to each of you that has shown support to our cause this year! We are so elated and excited by the prospect of projects to come in the New Year -- and hope we will see many of you as we work toward new endeavors -- including a Family Dance in March and a Fun Run in May, among other events!
Have a wondrous suite of winter holidays -- and keep in touch with us!
As a reminder, we have a Venmo charity profile! We hope this makes it easier to donate towards bits of pto programming you're passionate about. It's @asaadamspto.
