NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 4 | 12 August 2022
Message from Geordie
Good afternoon everyone,
It would seem that God was looking down on us today with some beautiful sunshine for our Cross Country Carnival. I was so proud of all the Bernie’s students who participated, showing resilience, a ‘have-a-go’ attitude and excellent sportsmanship. Our students have really enjoyed getting to know our new course and it was great to see our families turn out to watch the event! Congratulations to all the students who placed in their races and I look forward to watching them at the interschool event later this term!
On Wednesday night a number of our staff attended the Kolbe musical, Grease, at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. I was blown away by the whole show and I was so proud to see all the ex-Bernie’s students up on stage. Congratulations to all the families who were involved. We also had a very exciting finish to a Bernie’s Basketball game this week, with Lucas in Year 2 hitting the winning free-throws after the siren to win the game! Great to see our students playing sport in the right spirit and doing their best!
A quick reminder that information has gone home this week about our Father’s Day Breakfast to be held on Friday morning the 2nd of September. Like we did for our Mother’s Day event, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate the significant men in our students lives. We are planning a casual BBQ breakfast for our students and their father’s, so if you have time before school, we would love to see you there. Please register your interest so that we can cater appropriately using the link below.
Finally, can I please ask parents to be vigilant and not send students to school when they are visibly ill. With the issues surrounding the current pandemic and in particular, staffing our classrooms, we ask that students stay home if they have cold and flu symptoms please. As a parent myself, I understand that it can be difficult at times to know where the line is, however, if your child has a visibly runny nose, cough or fever, it is important for everyone’s wellbeing that they stay home.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and look forward to Wellbeing Week in Week 5 – A focus on uninterrupted teaching and learning, family time and of course, NO HOMEWORK! A reminder that Monday is a Pupil Free Day!

More RAT Tests are available
The government has once again delivered free RAT tests for all Kindy to Year 6 students.
We will start handing out these RATs out on Tuesday and the process will be similar to last time. RATS will only be available for collection from Tuesday 16th August to Friday 19th August.
Parents/caregivers can collect the RATs from outside the school office during 8:15am to 8:30am and 3:00pm to 3:15pm. We apologise, but we cannot hand these to students, they do need to be handed to a parent/guardian. If you wish for another parent to collect the RATs on your behalf, please write permission and get them to hand that to us that note when they collect the RATs (we will keep that note on record).
Just a reminder, that if your child becomes symptomatic, they should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. You should notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID-19. Refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definition, testing and isolation requirements.
Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our school COVID-19 safe.
