St Elizabeth's News
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 3 | 16 FEBRUARY 2024
This week marked the beginning of the Lenten Season, an important part of our Liturgical calendar. Father Leonard, Mrs Curtis and students from Year Four to Six led a beautiful Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday. All students from Kindergarten to Year Six received the ashes on their forehead in the shape of a cross as a personal act of remembrance and as a sign or a witness for others.
Yesterday was a sea of orange as we celebrated Assisi House Day. Assisi House is named after St Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan Order. He is the patron saint of animals and the natural environment. St Elizabeth believed and followed the teachings of St Francis of Assisi. She modelled the value of humility in all her actions and words and dedicated her life to the Third Order of St Francis. By wearing orange to school, students raised much needed funds for Caritas Project Compassion and participated in activities that emphasised caring for the environment. Thank you to our Assisi staff for organising the celebrations.
A reminder to all parents and caregivers that if you have any issues or concerns, please firstly reach out to your child’s classroom teacher before contacting leadership. While myself and my leadership team will always be available to talk to, many concerns that are directed to us can be dealt directly with by the classroom teacher. After speaking with the teacher, if you are still concerned or need further clarification, please contact the front office.
As mentioned at the beginning of the week, Covid-19 is yet again impacting our school community with a number of staff and students testing positive throughout the week. If your child/children show any cold or flu-like symptoms, please keep them home until they are feeling better.
A reminder to refrain from parking in the Visitors Carparks during drop-off and pick-up, unless directed by staff. I appreciate that car bays are limited so I do ask that families with children in Year Three to Six only, please continue to use Kiss and Drive as your preferred option and leave the car bays for our younger students.
Finally, this weekend the staff of St Elizabeth’s will participate in the Staff Commissioning Mass at St Anthony of Padua on Sunday morning at 9am. Families are welcome to attend.
Stay cool over the weekend!
God bless

Religious Education News
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent.
We call it Ash Wednesday because it is the day, Christians around the world traditionally receive a cross of ashes on their foreheads as a sign of their desire to change their lives to become more like Jesus. The cross of ashes remind people that we are not perfect, and t hat we know we are not perfect but that we are trying to grow more into the people God destined us to be by loving and serving others as Jesus did.
During the Season of Lent, we ask God to help us to reach out to others with more love and kindness especially in our own families, our school and in our world and think about how we can serve God’s people through prayer, fasting and alms giving.
