Principal's Notes
Dear Coyote Families,
It was another GREAT WEEK at Canyon View Elementary School! We enjoyed X-plorations, Student Council had it's first meeting, and No Place for Hate and Hope Squad met as well! Somehow, we got through a week of rain! We are looking forward to blue skies and outdoor recess during the week ahead.
This time of year, we ask our families to participate in PUSD's annual LCAP survey. LCAP stands for Local Control Accountability Plan. This plan shapes the Districts goals and guides our budgeting priorities for the 2024-25 school year. All of our voices matter, so everyone's participation is crucial and valued. We want to make sure the voices of Canyon View families are represented in this survey. The survey asks the essential question: What existing or additional school programs or specific supports should we prioritize to ensure our student's future success. You can take the survey at bit.ly/2024pusdlcap. Please take a moment to share your input!
Let's Make it a Great Year Together,
Mrs. Erica Edmonston (she/her/hers)
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School
English Learner Family Engagement Survey
Parents of English Learners:
Today through Friday, March 1st, Poway Unified will be conducting our Family Engagement and Accountability survey to gather input from all families of English Learner students. This survey helps shape the District’s goals and guide priorities for the 2024-2025 school year. Your feedback is extremely helpful as we continue to seek ways to better our English Learner program. Please click HERE to complete the survey.

CVES Artist in Residence: Science Instruction
Our Foundation funds the Science Artist in Residence Position at Canyon View Elementary School to provide supplemental science instruction to our students. We are looking for someone with a science background who can provide science enrichment lessons to students in grades K-6, starting in December. A teaching credential is not required, but strongly preferred. The program currently runs two days a week, 6 hours/day (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Artist in Residence positions are based on a set number of hours/year. For more information, please contact Principal Edmonston at eedmonston@powayusd.com. Here is what Kate Recore, our previous Science Artist in Residence has to say about this very special position: "I've been at Canyon View for 14 years, as a parent, a volunteer, a foundation president, and a substitute teacher. But, I have never loved the school more than I have as a science teacher. It has been a dream job for me, and I know whoever replaces me will feel the same way."

CVES Science Fair
Put those thinking caps on! The CVES Science Fair will be on February 29th from 5-8 p.m. in the MPR. The purpose of the science fair is to provide an independent opportunity for students to explore the world of science. Stuck on an idea? You can ask your teachers, librarian, neighbors, engineers, scientists, or anyone who might know more about your topic for help! Feel free to use these valuable community resources and take advantage of the upcoming week off school to work on your projects!
Registration is open to all CVES students in TK-5th grade through Wednesday, February 21st. Visit https://www.teamcanyonview.org/science-fair to learn more or https://bit.ly/CVESscience to register. Participation is voluntary and not required.

TEAM CV Meeting
Coyote parents (members or not) are invited to attend our monthly Team CV meetings, especially if you are interested in learning what the PTO & Foundation do, how money that is raised is spent, or are interested in training or shadowing for a position on the board/s next year. Many of our current board members are graduating out with their 5th graders this year and having people who are comfortable taking over key roles is important to ensuring we maintain a strong partnership for our younger kids. Though formal childcare is not available, children are invited to attend meetings and sit in the room with parents. Meetings occur every first Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the Innovation Station or via Zoom. For Zoom info, please DM us to be added to the distribution list.
Our next meeting is Thursday, March 7th. Hope to see you there!
