Therefore, the links to the documents (i.e. lessons) within the unit outline are not live. To find the lessons and other documents, navigate to the blue "Topics" bar on the left-hand side in your course and click on "Instructional Strategies," "Topic Resources" and/or "STEM" to find the lessons. The real "meat" of CTLS Teach is under the "Topics" section-- so don't forget to navigate all the way down to the bottom of the page!

The Canoemobile is visiting the Atlanta area for the third time! This fall, the Wilderness Inquiry brings their 24' voyageur canoes down from Minnesota to explore the Chattahoochee River watershed. They will be at the Chattahoochee Nature Center to take students out on the River, learn about STEM careers and to learn some science about the Chattahoochee River. You can sign up for one of these days to explore and learn about your watershed. Detailed information can be found below. Dates and times are first-come, first-served.

Dates: October 30 – November 14th (12 days of programs)

Schedule: We will divide each day into two sessions. We can accommodate up to 108 (students, teachers & chaperones) per day:

10:00-11:15-Session 1 Group A (canoe river study) & Group B (2 land stations)

11:15-11:45-Lunch

11:45-1:00-Session 2 Group B (canoe river study) & Group A (2 land stations)

Location: Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell, GA 30075

Participants: Up to 108 per day. These numbers include teachers & chaperones. (4th to High School)

Experience: No prior boating experience is necessary

Cost: Free (paid by a grant)

Transportation: Schools will have to make their own bus arrangements.

Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, a water planning agency for the 15 county metro area focused on water supply and conservation, wastewater and septic management, and watershed protection/stormwater pollution prevention, is holding an essay contest for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This year’s topic is to explain why water quantity and water quality are equally important. Students should write a 300-500 word essay. Essays are due October 20, 2017. The prize is $100 for each county winner, and a winner from the City of Atlanta. A grand prize with an additional $400 will be awarded at the winners’ reception held on December 13th at the state capitol.

The annual Middle School Science Olympiad training workshop is on Saturday October 28th at Dodgen Middle School in East Cobb County. This middle school workshop is helpful for new schools as well as experienced schools. This provides a great way to jump start your team for the year.

Each school that registers may bring 1 teacher/coach and 2 students for each event class that is taught (as space available).

This year’s classes include:

• Roller Coaster – Dodgen / Lockheed Martin

• Engineering Careers (Taught by young Lockheed Martin engineers)
• New coach class (0-3 years experience) Debbie Amodeo, Dodgen
• Coach Roundtable (new & experienced lead coaches)

We are also teaching a “new coach” class which is geared towards coaches with 0-3 years’ experience with Science Olympiad.
