LETRS for Teachers
On November 7th and 8th, two cohorts comprised of PSJA dyslexia interventionists from accross the district attended training for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling. Dr. Polly Trevino provided teachers with extensive knowledge in the latest research in the science of reading. Our teachers learned about the relationship between language and literacy, typical oral language development, what the brain does when it reads, and several scientific models for reading and word recognition while participating in activities and collaborating with peers.
Lexia PowerUp Training
On November 14, PSJA Dyslexia Interventionists attended a training on the Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® program for grades 6-12. PowerUp is a teacher-guided computer program that is founded on the science of reading. When implemented with fidelity, it enables students to demonstrate 2-3 of growth in a single academic year.
