District Update
January 26, 2023
Dear East Ramapo Community,
Winter 2023 is shaping up to be quite a busy time in the East Ramapo Central School District and we are excited to provide a snapshot of our lessons, activities and events in this edition of Roundup Notes. We celebrate the recent achievements taking place in our 14 schools, including the top musicians who performed in an all-county festival, the dynamic performances of the two high school cheerleading squads, and the myriad of commemorative events surrounding Martin Luther King Day.
Last week, we conducted two Code of Conduct Focus Group meetings and are thrilled with the insightful input we received from the parents, caregivers and community partners who participated. Shared decision making involving members of the school community is a priority for East Ramapo. As stated in our district’s mission, “As a unified community, the East Ramapo Central School District is committed to educating the whole child by providing a healthy, safe, supportive, engaging and challenging learning environment.”
Next month, we celebrate Black History Month and Rockland Read-In, so I encourage you to check the district website and tune into our social media channels to stay up-to-date on the activities our teachers and administrators have planned!
Sincerely,
Dr. Clarence G. Ellis
Superintendent of Schools

East Ramapo Student Musicians Perform in the RCMEA Senior All-County Music Festival
Ten East Ramapo student musicians performed in the Rockland County Music Education Association (RCMEA) Senior All-County Music Festival on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Student selections were based on the students’ outstanding solo audition scores from last spring's New York State School Music Association solo evaluation festival.
Congratulations to the East Ramapo Central School District musicians and to music teachers district-wide who have contributed to their growth and success.

East Ramapo Cheerleading: Loud and Proud
This year both Ramapo and Spring Valley high schools had record numbers at cheerleading tryouts, which speaks volumes about the chemistry and energy surrounding these two programs. The district recently invested in new uniforms for many of the East Ramapo teams, including the two cheerleading squads, and this move has made a remarkable difference to the student-athletes. The cheerleading squads not only got new uniforms and pom poms, they also received matching warm-up apparel and backpacks. Our East Ramapo cheerleading squads look sharp!

East Ramapo Marching Band Spreads Holiday Cheer
In case you missed it before winter break, The East Ramapo Marching Band hopped around the district bringing holiday cheer. They played all of the student (and staff) favorites, including Feliz Navidad, Jingle Bells, The Dreidel Song and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

East Ramapo's Commitment to Academics, Social-Emotional Learning and Operations is Showcased on Social Media
With a district as large as East Ramapo, it can challenge to stay informed about all the instruction, sports, music, and so much more happening in our 14 schools. East Ramapo supports the use of social media to enhance opportunities for communication and collaboration, and this content is intended to be a place of relevant, positive, and respectful interaction.
We invite you to tune in and get a peek at the powerful instruction taking place day in and day out. If you are already following along, you probably saw Mr. Horan's science class at Chestnut Ridge operating microscopes, Ms. McCool's Eldorado students showcasing their math problems on the dry-erase boards, and Mr. Arias's students in the Newcomers academy learning about osmosis and diffusion.
