NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION

It was a pleasure meeting our new families at the New Family Orientation on Thursday! Families learned all about what makes Nohl Canyon so GREAT!

LUNCH SHELTER CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN!!

A new lunch shelter is on its way! Workers began the demolishing of the old shelter on Saturday. Work is expected to be completed in 3 weeks. Lunch benches have been moved to the grass area and EZ-UPs will be placed for shade.

Dear Nohl Canyon Community,

On Friday night I announced in a video that I have accepted an opportunity as Interim Principal at Cerro Villa Middle School. I will begin this new journey on Monday afternoon. Again, I thank each and every Nohl Canyon Community member (parents, students, staff) on the exceptional experience of the last four years. I look forward to the continued relationships with all! Thank you ❤️

Welcome Mr. Matt Strickland to Nohl Canyon!

Matt Strickland comes to Nohl Canyon from his most recent post as an assistant principal at El Modena High school. Mr. Strickland first started with Orange Unified in 2007 as a freshman football coach at Orange High School. He went on to teach history and coach football at Villa Park High School.

Prior to stepping into administration, Mr. Strickland served as an instructional specialist with the Orange Unified Induction office where he helped coach new and experienced teacher teams. While at El Modena, Mr. Strickland served in several assistant principal roles with the primary duties of student discipline and special education.

Mr. Strickland holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles as well as a master's degree in educational administration from Concordia University, Irvine.

DATA CONFIRMATION is part of the annual registration process. Prior to REGISTRATION DAY (Aug 15th), all families need to complete DATA CONFIRMATION through PARENT PORTAL (use your parent log-in, NOT student log-in). Process is complete when you confirm the final step "Final Data Confirmation"

Nohl Canyon will host a Registration Day on Tuesday, August 16th. Registration Day allows families to turn in important Data Confirmation paperwork, drop off Emergency packs, purchase school uniforms and spirit ware, learn who your childs teacher is AND complete SCHOOL PICTURE DAY!!

School Picture Day will take place ON REGISTRATION DAY! Students may wear picture day attire for their school pictures!

MODIFIED WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE:

TK / Kindergarten: 8:15 - 12:10

1st - 3rd: 8:10 - 12:20

4th - 6th: 8:00 - 12:30

Nohl Canyon uses a "Staggered" Start and dismissal to provide some relief with traffic. Supervision in front of school begins at 7:40 am. After dismissal, supervision ends at 2:40 pm. All students need to be picked up by 2:40 pm.

2023-2024 Bell Schedule

Nohl Canyon Staff looks forward to seeing all our returning and new Roadrunners on Wednesday morning. To help make the first day a successful start, please read over the following first day procedures:

• Students will enter campus at their designated time
• ONLY students will be allowed past the perimeter gates.

ARRIVAL

UPPER GRADE (4th, 5th, 6th) - enter campus at 7:50, school starts at 8:00

• Upper Grade students can enter through the front Gate or EAST gate near the upper playground blacktop.
• Upper Grade students will walk to the upper grade playground and find their 22-23 Teacher's Name Sign (adults will and students will help)
• Students will line-up at their designated Teacher sign.

Primary Grade (1st, 2nd, 3rd) - enter campus at 8:00, school starts at 8:10

• Primary grade students will enter campus through the front gate
• Primary students will walk to the primary grade playground, blacktop
• Students will line-up behind their designated Teachers name sign (adults/teachers will be there to help)

TK and Kindergarten - Gate opens at 8:05, school starts at 8:15

• Parents are asked to park in the EAST parking lot and Walk their TK/Kindergarten child to the Blue Gate for Entry
• TK and Kindergarten students will enter through the BLUE Gate near TK/Kinder playground
• Teachers will be on blacktop to guide and help all students.

DISMISSAL - Modified Wednesday

Tk / Kindergarten: Dismissal = 12:10

• TK/Kindergarten parents are asked to be present to pick-up their child at the Blue Gate
• Please park in the EAST parking Lot
• DO NOT park in the STAFF parking Lot / Bus Lane (West parking lot)

Primary Grades: Dismissal = 12:25

• Park in the EAST parking lot or wait in the Pick-up lanes
• If parked in the Pick-up Lanes - DO NOT Exit your car

Upper Grades: Dismissal = 12:30

• Park in the EAST parking lot or wait in the Pick-up lanes
• If parked in the Pick-up Lanes - DO NOT Exit your car

Parking Lot Guidelines:

1. Entrance Driveways

• Nohl Canyon Rd Driveway is used for Staff, Buses or Drive Through to EAST parking lot Only
• Nohl Ranch Rd Lower Driveway is used for Entrance for all cars
• Nohl Ranch Rd Upper Driveway is EXIT ONLY. This driveway is also Right turn ONLY during the hours of 7:30 - 8:30 am AND 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.

• Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School.

Nohl Canyon Parents - if you need to park for drop-off/pick-up, or park to wait for your child, please utilize the following spots:

• Nohl Canyon's EAST back parking lot (West parking lot near Kindergarten area is STAFF ONLY)
• Nohl Canyon Rd where available (do not block driveways or park on the school side of Nohl Canyon Rd.)
• Dog park parking lot (Behind school)

4th, 5th, 6th Grade Parents

• If you have a child in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade only (do not have a primary child), please avoid parking in our drop-off/pick-up lane until your dismissal time.
• If you need to arrive early, please park in our back EAST parking lot to wait for your child.
• We need to keep our drop-off/pick-up lane open for each dismissal time to allow a steady flow of traffic.

Best Scenario - please pick up during the dismissal time for your specific grade level. Please use our drop-off/ Pick-up lanes to meet your child while parent stays in the car. We understand some families have multiple children with staggered dismissal times. If you need to wait for your child, please utilize one of the parking spots listed above. This will allow a continuous flow of traffic during pick-up.

Please visit the student calendar when deciding on vacations or other "out of school" activities. Attendance is the utmost importance for student achievement!

In the 2022-2023 school year, we are pleased to announce that 25 students earned PERFECT ATTENDANCE and Nohl Canyon had an overall 95% attendance rate!

UNIFORM POLICY:

Tops – Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month.

Bottoms – Uniform bottoms are to be any type (jeans and leggings included) of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid.

*Sweatpants not allowed
