It's getting real
Volunteers Needed
Always great to see parents at away games. Hope to see more at the next one.

We could use some strong hands this Saturday 16th during the mattress fundraiser to assemble the props for the half-time show.
US Band Contest
Lots of information for students and parents in the official post below. If your student is in an organization that looks for service hours, this is a great opportunity. Band/color guard members can volunteer up until the scheduled call time.
Football Games
Please look for a separate email from the lead Chaperone Sherry Curran each week for volunteering for the football games and contests opportunities to help with our fabulous band and color guard.
General CCISD volunteer application (required of all volunteers at school events including football games and competitions):
From the Directors:
Great job last week! We added a ton of new material week and did a great job presenting it at the football game Saturday. Let’s get ready to have another productive week!
This Saturday, we will have our annual Mattress Fundraiser, where the lobby of the Clear Lake HS Performing Arts Center is turned into a mattress store for a day. Please help us get the word out and stop by if you’re in the market for a new mattress.
This Friday Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion will debut the full uniforms! Students will need to make sure they have the shakos (marching hats), hat wraps, blue uniform tops, black gloves, black bibbers, LONG BLACK SOCKS, and marching shoes. Color Guard costumes are not in yet and will be added the following week.
Wednesday we will rehearse for about 30 minutes in the blue uniform tops and marching hats with the hat wraps. Much of the choreography we are doing involves the side capes and we want to make sure that the students get a chance to get familiar with them before the halftime performance.
The props are in! We will need a lot of parent help to put them together each performance. Preferably, we would have the same crew of parents put them together when we get to a game or contest, and tear them down afterward. We have a crew of students that will load them on the white trailer for transport. We also need some help gluing the fan blades to the frames, which we are doing during the Mattress Fundraiser on September 16 from 10:00 until we are done. We will be in the band hall so it will be a climate-controlled prop party! Please consider coming and helping us out so that we can get props on the field for our first stadium rehearsal on Monday, September 18.
Students auditioning for Region Jazz will need to meet at Brazoswood HS on Saturday. Start time is 10:00 am, and it should be wrapped up no later than 2:00 pm. Good luck!
All students using a school owned instrument were given an Instrument Loan Contract to have signed and turn back in with payment. They are $75 per semester or $150 for the year. Please send those in as soon as possible.

As a reminder, this year’s spring trip will be to Orlando, Florida! We will spend 5 days in the Disney and Universal Parks, as well as experience a recording studio session with a real Disney musician. Please read the trip letter for more information on this exciting opportunity! Students and parents wanting to go on this trip need to turn in the letter of intent and first payment by September 22, 2023.

Marching Uniform Care
Now that we will be wearing full uniforms at each game and contest, we want to let everyone know how to properly care for the uniforms so they stay looking great for all the upcoming performances.
Both the bibbers and long-sleeve tops are machine washable - wash in cold water with regular detergent (no bleach), tumble dry on low heat, remove promptly after drying and hang back up.
The uniforms should be washed after each performance, or set of performances (i.e., Friday night game followed by Saturday contest). On the weeks we have a back-to-back game and contest, the bibbers and top should be hung up in a well-ventilated area after the game on Friday night to dry out before the contest on Saturday. Also, after each performance, the shako box should be left open a few hours to air out.

Watch this video about how mattress fundraisers work
Share out the Mattress Fundraiser Survey Link
Continue to forward the Mattress Fundraiser Survey link that you received from your student to your extended network. This will help our program gauge the community's needs and interest for the fundraiser. Even if the people you send it to do not need a mattress, they can help us spread the word and build awareness within the community about our event.
25 completed surveys will count as the first mattress sale for the student and earn them $25
