Message from the Superintendent
The start of August means my thoughts go to welcoming everyone back to school! More staff are starting to return to school buildings. Soon our students will be joining us. Please look at this week’s district newsletter full of items to help prepare for a successful start of the year.
While most have been out of our buildings for the summer, our bond team has been making significant strides with construction projects. Below are highlights of some new capital improvements. We will have more developments to share in the coming weeks.
It is exciting and makes us feel hopeful for the school year.
First Verify Your Student's Info
Log into ParentVUE and access the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.

Set Up Meal Accounts, Applications
The universal free meals waiver with USDA expired on June 30, 2022. That means starting this school year LOSD will be serving meals under the free, reduced, and paid categories.
Please be sure to set up your student's meal account or apply for free/reduced meals. Look for Meals under Find it Fast on district and school website homepages for account setup and application information, and more.
Be Ready to Ride the Bus
Student Transportation of America provides bus transportation for LOSD. Our bus drivers look forward to getting to know your child and being a part of their amazing school experience.
Students who live further than 1 mile away from their resident elementary school and 1.5 miles away from their resident middle or high school are eligible for transportation services. However, service is typically provided closer to avoid crossing major thoroughfares.
Bus registration is not necessary. Access points -- or what most call bus stops -- will be available by mid-August. Look for an email from LOSD notifying you when access points are posted under Transportation on the district and school websites.
Help prepare your child to ride the bus. Select the access point(s) that work best for your family.
Visit your access point before school starts to familiarize your child with their stop.
Look for visual clues to help identify when it’s their time to get off the bus.
Kindergarteners need an adult to greet them off the bus. Bus drivers are obligated to return unattended kindergarteners to school for safekeeping. Please be sure to be at your child’s stop ahead of time to help keep the bus moving for all onboard.
Look Forward to Smart Start
Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents/guardians, to make introductions with their teachers and feel prepared for the start of school.
Smart Start will be held in person at each LOSD school, Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, 1-3 p.m. Look for Smart Start on the district and school website homepages for more information.
Check Out Our Capital Bond Summer Projects
As soon as school let out in June, construction crews got to work on our summer projects funded by the 2017 and 2021 bond measures. Thank you Lake Oswego voters! Summer capital improvements include:
The River Grove Elementary community has been moved to Uplands where they will have school for the next two years. The River Grove site looks very different. Buildings are being demolished following abatement. The initial site work will continue into early October.
Lakeridge High School's roof is coming along well. Last week we used the second largest crane on the West Coast to return the tuned-up mechanical equipment onto the new roof.
Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High School Career Technical Education spaces are getting major upgrades to allow for new, evolving curriculum and educational opportunities for years to come.
Lakeridge Middle School solar panels are being installed.
Lake Oswego Middle School design continues with a focus on schematic-level design through the summer. We have received great input from our design advisory team (DAT) and district leaders. Concepts are taking shape and site features such as fields and circulation are starting to appear.
Oak Creek Elementary's inclusive playground, after experiencing supply chain delays, is finally complete and ready for play. New pieces and updated existing equipment make for a more inclusive playground. Areas of rubberized surface allow for easy access for students with mobility issues and soft landings for all. This project, funded by the 2017 bond program, is somewhat of a pilot to bring more inclusive play spaces to all of our elementary schools. The 2021 bond program will be addressing playgrounds at our other elementary schools.
Fentanyl & Opioids: What You Need to Know
Important information about Fentanyl & Opioids is available on the Safety & Security section of the district website. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) provided the information in response to the public health crisis related to rising youth and adult opioid overdoses and deaths. In Oregon, fentanyl-related overdose deaths increased by 74% from 2019 to 2020, for a total of 298 fentanyl-related deaths in 2020.
Returning Unused COVID-19 Screening Supplies
If your student participated in the OHSU COVID-19 weekly screening program, we can return your unused, unopened collection kits. Please feel free to drop off your unused supplies in a collection bin located in the reception area of the LOSD Administration Building, 2455 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego (a single-story building on Lake Oswego High School campus next to the district pool). The reception area is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Returning your supplies is optional.
