National School Counseling Week
School counselors help students in more ways than you may know. This week we celebrate them as a part of National School Counseling Week 2024. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plans for a career.
3DE's Big Grant
Congratulations to Parkview's 3DE program who were awarded a grant for $5, 379 by Walton EMC. Ms. Carla Hamilton applied for the grant to support the 3DE students entrepreneurial journey. The program plans on purchasing an embroidery machine to help students gain more business skills.
Vex Robotics Move on to State
After competing in 6 tournaments throughout the year, Parkview’s Vex Robotics teams have won 12 awards. Team 1356B has won 4 Tournament champions, 3 skills champions, 2 design awards, and 1 excellence award with 1356X and 1356A both winning Tournament champions at the most recent tournament, qualifying all 3 teams for the State Competition February 10th.
Model UN Students Excel at UGAMUNC 30
On January 26-28, Model UN students from Sweden and Zimbabwe traveled to UGA to participate in UGAMUNC 30. Dileep Kunnath represented the World Trade Organization, Megan On worked on the World Health Organization committee, Micah Raffield worked on the International Maritime Organization, and Jenifer Venegas Castillo represented Zimbabwe in the African Union. During the event, Freshman Micah Raffield received the verbal recognition award for his noteworthy participation in the International Maritime Organization. Additionally, Sophomore Dileep Kunnath impressively asked the Indonesian delegation to clarify a clause in their resolution in front of the entire Model UN assembly.
The PAGE STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition ) program is an annual initiative that recognizes top high school seniors and their teachers for academic excellence. Congratulations to this year's STAR Student, Hanny Wu, for scoring the highest SAT score on a single test date and ranking in the top 10% of her senior class. As a STAR Student, Hanny was able to choose a teacher who played a key role in her academic success. Congratulations to Mrs. Korth for receiving the STAR Teacher recognition!

Collect Your Points for the next PBIS Event
Keep working on your behavior points! Our next PBIS event will be February 23rd. To participate, you will need 275 points by February 14th. Students who attend Maxwell, Grayson, or are in Dual Enrollment will need 140 points. Keep working on being on time; you are doing great!
New Security Measures and Protocols when Visiting
We are pleased to announce that our security vestibule is now operational. Please bare with us as we make adjustments during this transitional period. To ensure the smoothest possible experience when entering through the main doors, please pay close attention to the following instructions:
- Ring the bell located on the outside of the main door.
- State your reason for visiting (e.g. attending a meeting, checking out a student, etc.).
- Proceed into the vestibule and place your ID into the card reader (do not push it down).
- Enter the building and collect your visitor badge from the desk.
These measures are intended to maintain a steady traffic flow and enhance the security of our building. Thank you for following the signage and instructions carefully.
Scholastic Images on Campus
Scholastic Images will be on campus at Parkview MONDAY, 02/05 during lunch, so don’t miss out placing your orders for:

SAT School Day – Request Accommodations
All 11th grade students will take the SAT School Day on Tuesday, March 26th. This test is provided for free to all 11th grade students in GCPS. All 11th grade students will automatically be registered for the exam.
Testing accommodations students receive at school (through an IEP, 504 or ELPP) do not automatically apply to College Board assessments (PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and AP exams). If your student qualifies for testing accommodations and would like to request them for the SAT School Day, the deadline to submit the request to Parkview High School is Monday, February 5th.

Elective Registration for 2024/25
Students will be receiving their course registration sheet on Monday, 2/5 with their core area recommendations pre-printed at the top. Some students will also have elective courses listed if they indicated to their teacher that they wanted to continue in a current course pathway. Students will work with their advisement teacher next week to choose their electives. An elective fair was held on Thursday, 2/1 so students could get a glimpse of the many electives we offer our students. Students may also view the registration hub on the Parkview website to view videos about the different electives.
All students should have a total of 12 courses (six each semester) indicated on their registration sheet (either pre-printed or signed/circled by PHS Staff on the back of the form).
Students applying to Maxwell HS of Technology, Grayson Tech, or Dual Enrollment should still register for a total of 12 courses (six each semester) at Parkview. The Parkview Curriculum Office will adjust the Parkview schedule once we have confirmation that the student has been accepted into one of the above programs.
If a student/parent wants to request a change in placement or level of a course, they must fill out Step 2 of the form and their must be a parent signature for the change to be considered. As a reminder, students should be performing highly or in the A range at the current level before requesting to move up a level in course placement.
The registration sheet should be returned to the student's advisement teacher by Friday, 2/9. Students should complete Step 3 of the form and both student and the parent/guardian should sign.
As are reminder, students are able to view their course requests for the 2024-25 school year through the StudentVue app or through eCLASS and this is how students/parents can verify if a requested change was made. Please understand that the Parkview Curriculum Office will be working on these requests as soon as registration forms are returned to the Advisement teachers by Friday, 2/9 and this may take a couple of weeks to complete!

2024-2025 Course Registration Information

The week of Feb. 5th, students will be choosing their elective classes. Students should take time to look at the Course Registration Information page on the Parkview website and begin thinking about the electives they would like to take next year. Students currently in 9th and 10th grade who have not started a foreign language should strongly consider beginning their foreign language.

Parking on Campus
To park on campus you must have already purchased a parking pass, have your vehicle registered with the school, and have your parking sticker visible in your car window. If you don't have a parking pass, you should not be parking on campus, you will be subject to being ticketed or towed.
Unfortunately at this time, there are no parking spots available.
Dress Code Reminders
As temperatures drop and winter approaches, we would like to remind everyone of our dress code policy. To ensure the safety and security of all individuals within the building, no hats, hoods, or headwear are allowed. This helps us to identify each person in the building if necessary. Additionally, blankets or pillows cannot be used during school hours. We ask that you wear an extra layer of clothing or bring a jacket for chilly mornings or classrooms. Remember, hats, hoods, headwear, blankets, and pillows are not allowed inside the building. Thank you for your cooperation.
Addressing Concerns at School
Urgent Messages and Deliveries of School & Non-School Items
- Urgent Messages can be delivered to the Attendance Office.
- The school does not accept flowers, balloons and other non-school items for delivery to students. No outside food is allowed except packed lunches from home. That means... NO DELIVERIES OF FOOD ANYWHERE ON CAMPUS FROM PARENTS OR DELIVERY SERVICES.
Where Can I See My Bus Information?
Bus stops are determined by the address that is on file with the school. You will only be able to ride the bus that is assigned to you at your address unless you have applied for a buss pass.

On the Parent Portal select the student you want to view:
- Click on "ParentVue"
- Click on "Student information"
- There you will find the address of the assigned bus stop, the bus number for the AM and PM routes, and the estimated time of pickup and arrival

Attendance Tip of the Week
With the new vestibule procedures in place, you may want to follow the instructions below to make the process of checking out much smoother.
Do You Need to Leave Early?
Please Follow These Check Out Procedures...
In the attendance office we want to make the process of checking your student out as seamless as possible. We can do this by following these simple steps:
- Prior to 7:15 am, the student should provide the Attendance Office with a note from the parent or guardian stating the date, parent contact number, the time requested for the check-out, and the reason. Parents will be contacted.*
- The student's absence due to checking out will only be excused if it meets one of the approved reasons (please see the GCPS online student/parent handbook).
- The student is then provided with a check-out pass that is shown to the classroom teacher at the time of the check-out. This pass should be brought to the Attendance Office to complete the checkout process. This completes the checkout process and the student is free to leave campus.
- Or a parent must come in and show ID to check-out student.
*If the parent cannot be contacted, the student may not be allowed to check out. A parent or guardian must be contacted to grant permission before a student is allowed to leave campus. Students will only be dismissed to the parent or guardian or the emergency contact listed in the Parent Portal. Students who leave campus without following the check-out procedures will be considered AWOL from school and disciplined accordingly.
Please note that on days with alternate schedules, such as exam days, our attendance office sees a high volume of students. Parents and students checking in and out may face long wait times.
For security reasons, we do not permit call-in or email parent check-outs. If a student is sick or has an emergency, the school clinic or attendance office will contact a parent/guardian or emergency contact. Students will only be released to parents/guardians, or emergency contacts that are listed on their account.

ASVAB Career Exploration Program
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, is an optional aptitude test offered to our juniors and seniors each year. This test is designed to help you discover special skills and potential abilities you may have.
What does the future hold for you?
What types of careers match your interests, skills, and values?
What kind of education do you need to enter an occupation?
These are all important questions, and you can begin taking steps now to find the career that's right for you. Your test results, along with an exploration guide, will help you explore careers and plan your future.
Although the Department of Defense administers this test, you are under no obligation to the military, in any way, to take the ASVAB.
Students will be required to sign up to take the test.

Attention Parents of the Graduating Class of 2025:
If you have a junior who will graduate in May of 2025 then you are invited to attend the Virtual Junior Parent Night Meeting on February 13th at 6:30 PM. The event is sponsored by the PHS Counselors. We will talk about meeting graduation requirements. We will also go over the next steps in preparing students for college and careers. This meeting is a parents’ meeting so parents can help support their students.

Tickets / IDs: There are no official tickets for prom. Your name will be on a list at the front door. The list is made from those students that purchased tickets through GoFan. All students and their dates must show a picture ID to enter. You may use your driver's license, your school ID, or the Student Vue App. You cannot enter the prom without an ID. Guests must also enter with the Parkview student that purchased the date ticket.

PTSA Hosts Parkview Day 2024
The Parkview PTSA will host the 2nd annual Parkview Day on March 9th. This even features an artist market with crafters creators ad people with fun stuff for sale! There also will be food trucks, music groups and a Chili Cook-off! Parkview's student clubs will also be there to volunteer and for you to find out more about what they offer.
The Parkview Day annual fundraiser benefits the Parkview HS community and allows the PTSA to continue its great work. This day helps to unify the community raise money to continue the PTSA programs like grants for teachers, school gifts, teacher/staff hospitality activities, Baccalaureate program, Reflections and student advocacy.

ESOL Students Are Giving Back
Ms. Reyes, our Parent Liaison, our ESOL students, and the ESOL club have been working on a Care Closet and Pantry that will soon be available to our Panthers in need. Ms. Reyes has put together a wonderful list of items needed and our ESOL club and students have prepared collection boxes around the school for these items!
Please consider looking at home for any items on our list for the pantry. Boxes can be found in the following places:
