This Week in TK
Hi TK Families,
This week was full of excitement and color! Over the weekend, some of our classes were visited by the tricky leprechauns, but they escaped all of our traps and left us big messes. In STEAM Lab, we explored more rainbow magic and tried our hands at creating rainbows with candy and water. Outside, we are having fun on the playground with the return of some TK toys, but it is still very shady and chilly so please dress appropriately and bring jackets every day. The week ended learning how to use our mouths to make beatbox noises, with Backtrack Vocals, courtesy of Tahoe Arts Project. We invite your families to see the final community performance tonight at LTCC Duke Theater at 6:30pm. You can find all the details and more at https://www.tahoeartsproject.org. Lastly, 2nd trimester report cards are going home in folders tonight—families may keep the report pages inside the folder, but please sign and return the envelope to school. Enjoy the weekend and we'll see you with smiles on Monday!
This Week in Kindergarten
Hello Kinder Parents,
We had a fun Friday with a great performance by Backtrack Vocals from NYC. The students really enjoyed their songs, dance and beatbox rhythms. They have another performance tonight at LTCC if you are interested in seeing them with your child. Check out https://www.tahoeartsproject.org/ for more information. The kindergarten teachers attended a training in Placerville this week with a focus on mathematical thinking. We are looking forward to exploring additional math games and challenges with our students.
Please be sure to check your child's backpack/folder for the 2nd trimester Report Card then sign and return the empty envelope. Also let us know if you have any questions.
This Week in 1st Grade
Hello All and Happy Springtime!
It seems as though fall was only a month ago. How are we already three months into the new year? Time really does fly by when we are having fun, but not to worry. In true Tahoe fashion, we are set to get some more wet weather within the next week or so, so don’t pack those shovels just yet.
This week in first grade, we spent some time readjusting to a regular week of school and we wrapped up some additional art and writing projects. We learned about more addition and subtraction strategies as well as measurement concepts. Currently in English Language Arts (ELA), our classes are focusing heavily on Long A words that include “ai” sounds or end in “ay.” We have also begun to dig into Long E spelling patterns that include “ie” and “ee” patterns or words that end in -e such as me or she.
Additionally, our classes have continued to explore components of air in STEAM and the kids also continued to memorize some of the songs that they will sing to each of you in their up and coming performance of BUGS! More information on this performance will be posted soon, so stay tuned.
Last, but certainly not least, report cards are being sent home within the next week, so please keep an eye out for a yellow envelope that hopefully made its way inside a backpack. Please take some time to review these with your child so that he or she may better understand what each mark means. Similar to what was mentioned last week, please expect to see mostly 1’s and 2’s on this report card as well, since many of the standards listed are still in the process of being met and completed. Our department would also like to request that students return their envelopes signed after you have had a chance to review your child’s report card. We hope you have a great weekend and we look forward to another great week with even more learning!
Sincerely,
Tahoe Valley First Grade Team
This Week in 3rd Grade
This week has been packed full of learning! We had a neat micro green lesson from a local volunteer and students were able to take their own micro greens home. Then, Tahoe Performing Arts brought in Back Track Vocals a cappella quintet which was amazingly entertaining.
As a reminder second trimester report cards were sent home with your student today.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forwarded to see everyone on Monday.
This Week in 2nd Grade
Second Grade continues to be awed by the cycle of life. Our milkweed bugs and silkworms are emerging from their eggs to begin their long journey towards metamorphosis. Our hungry mealworms are a delight to observe as we await the arrival of our last insect crew, painted lady butterflies. Additionally, each class has had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Harnett for his "on location" morning announcements. Math continues to be in the spotlight, ask your second grade student to explain their favorite math warm-up activity. We finished our wonderful week with a TAP performance by Background Voices. Please be on the lookout for your child's report card which goes home today.
