Your dedication and hard work keep Sam Hughes shining bright. From the entire Sam Hughes CREW, thank you for making our school a tidy and beautiful place to learn and grow!
2. Ecology News
A special thank you to Ilianna and Elias' dad, Robert Caballero, for organizing the Courtyard Garden Box construction last Saturday. They look great and will help us grow vegetables for years to come!!
Also, we are grateful for all the families who came out to our first workday of the year- the families of Ramona and Baker, Jayce, Mabel, Frank and Fox, Aria, Baylee and Micah, Mateo, Imogene and Emery. And we had a generous neighbor, Hope, who came and worked hard alongside our families. What a crew!!

4. Character Strong Trait is Responsibility!
This month we are talking about Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others.
Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong.
Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
5. PTA Update
Sam Hughes Elementary Spellathon Alert! Join us from October 16th to November 6th for our first fundraiser of the year. Students, gear up to "Learn & Earn"! Keep an eye out for spelling words arriving next week to practice over fall break. Once the fundraiser site goes live, rally pledges from loved ones, ace those spelling tests, and help raise funds for our school.

Do you have knack for tax law or hold a CPA title?
Our school's Tax Credit Committee could use you expertise. We're looking to understand school tax credits better and find engaging ways to encourage more parents to participate.
Why get involved?
- Make a difference in our school community
- Help us brainstorm effective ways to inspire parents about the tax credit program.
- Demystify the tax credit allocation process for parents, showcasing how easy and beneficial it is.
- Collaborate with a dedicated group of teachers and parents focused on our students' success.
Can you help us make the most of tax credits and get our parent community involved?
If you're up for a rewarding challenge, we'd love to hear from you!

Annual Family Engagement Survey
Each year TUSD asks that we gather feedback from our communities regarding Family Engagement.
The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback from our families regarding their engagement and satisfaction within our school communities. By obtaining our families input, we can identify areas of strength and target areas for improvement.
Please take a moment to use the QR Code above to complete the survey.
Sam Hughes CREW, We Need Your Pics!
Our yearbook is in the making and we want to showcase all the memorable moments we share this year! We're reaching out to our amazing CREW to help us collect photos that capture the spirit of Sam Hughes.

Reminders!
Refillable Water Bottles are Needed for Students Each Day
Thank you for sending a refillable water bottle with your student each day. Water fountains are available for students to refill their water bottles as needed. We are encouraging students to stay well hydrated, especially with the temperatures as high as they have been.
Please be sure your student's name is clearly labeled on the bottle, thank you!
PTA Meetings!
Sam Hughes PTA has a new board this year -- with Rose Hagood as President, Raquel Salgado as Vice President, Elizabeth McDonnell as Treasurer and Olivia Alicea as Secretary!
Come to a PTA Meeting!
The Sam Hughes PTA meets about once a month at 6:00 pm in the courtyard or library, depending on weather. It's a great way to meet other parents and stay on top of everything happening at school.
