IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM MRS. BRAUNEIS!
Hi Snowshoe Families,
Thank you for entrusting the care of your student to me this year. I really enjoyed working with you and look forward to the following years in partnership with you all.
Last minute items closing out this current school year. All medications, over the counter (OTC) ones like cough drops, prescriptions, lotions, must be through the health office only. It is the District’s policy for a multitude of very important reasons. If your child needs sunscreen, you can apply it prior to the start of school. If it needs to be reapplied again during the day, we have a short-term form that I can have you and I fill out together. Otherwise, students are not allowed to do this out of their backpack as self-administration.
All medications and supplies that have been delivered to the health office over this school year must be picked up on the last day of school. We will do an inventory count together, so please be patient with me as I work with other families in front of you. If your medication is not picked up, it is the policy of the health office to dispose of the remaining medication. I can not and will not hold it in your place over the summer break.
Lastly, please make sure you provide and encourage your students to have outside play with a minimum goal of 1 hour. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends this minimum goal and for screen time for 2 yo and up to 1 hour a day. In this day an age of educational needs, that can be difficult to meet, as I know as a parent to 3 myself. If at all possible, try to designate a media-free time with the family and media-free sleeping area, which includes access to TVs, computers, or smartphones. Create a charging station instead, away from all the sleeping rooms. And try to encourage, even in the land of the midnight sun, adequate sleep from 8-12 hours a day. If you have any concerns about quality sleep or quality outside time, or ways to try to limit screen time, a great resource is your own Pediatricians or Family Physicians. They do more than just vaccinations and well child checkups. You might be surprised about how many great ideas they are able to share with you on reaching these healthy child goals!
I do hope you all have a safe and amazing summer break! I sure am going to miss those moving out of our school or on to 6th grade!!!
Respectfully yours,
Melissa A Brauneis, RN - School Nurse
