Heather Goodin, second grade teacher at Maple Glen Elementary School, is so proud of her student Lilly Reier. Read below to see what she has to say.

"We have been working on the engineering process for science and I gave students the option/challenge to go home and try to work through the engineering process at home -- noticing some sort of problem and trying to create something to help solve/fix that problem. Lilly was such a rockstar! She noticed a problem at home -- her little brother kept chucking his cereal bowl over the side of the sink and her family was always so nervous it was going to break! So she (with the help of Dad and his staple gun) created a "net" to catch the cereal bowl to prevent it from breaking."

Election Day is November 8, but early voting is available to any voter registered in Hamilton County. No application is necessary. Just bring your ID (Indiana Driver’s License, Indiana State ID, U.S. Passport, or U.S. Military ID). Below is Westfield's early voting information.

Carey Ridge’s 4th grade student council has started something called Carey Ridge Cares. Once a month, their student council will conduct a spirit day for $1 and donate the money to different foundations and charities they feel are important. For the month of September we chose to support childhood cancer raising close to $650 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Students and staff were encouraged to wear yellow.

Westfield Washington Schools is now using TalkingPoints to communicate with families! TalkingPoints allows for seamless multilingual two-way communication between teachers and families. Families can choose to receive messages via SMS text messaging or through the free FAMILIES | TalkingPoints mobile app for Apple or Android.

This platform has enhanced translation capabilities, so families can receive and send messages in their preferred language. Additional tools like speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and closed captioned videos make this program accessible to all of our Westfield families.

The most important thing you can do to ensure you are receiving messages from your child’s teacher is to make sure your contact information for the “Father” and “Mother” fields in PowerSchool is correct. When a teacher sends out a message, TalkingPoints will automatically use those two phone numbers. If you’d like to add additional contacts, please reach out to your child’s teachers.

Girl Scout Troop 4366 donated $700 to Riley Children’s Foundation. They also donated $700 to the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Troop 4366 joined with Troop 4084 and got a tour of the Humane Society in Fishers on September 25.

FIRST LEGO League Explore is designed to introduce STEM concepts to kids ages 6 to 10 while exciting them through a brand they know and love − LEGO®

Guided by adult coaches and FIRST® Core Values, students build models using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 and create Show Me posters to present what they learned. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through a real-world challenge – to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination.

The teams will be mentored by the high school students on the Westfield High School FRC Team, SHAM-ROCK-BOTICS, along with the professionals that volunteer with the high school robotics team.

The Pride of Westfield had an incredible weekend at the Bands of America Regional Championship in Louisville, KY. This was their first ever Bands of America competition. They made finals, and placed 9th amongst competitors with long lists of national championship awards. A huge congrats to Band Director Andrew Muth and to all of the talented student musicians and guard members!

Do you have a child in grades 4-12 who would like to be a part of The Pride of Westfield's winter programs? Bring them to the call out meetings and consider joining the team!

Members of the high school's Black Student Association went downtown to volunteer for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk at Victory Field. They helped set up water stations, the Kids Zone, Hands-only first aid stand and passed out goody bags for guests.

There is a new parent-driven council forming in partnership with district leaders for our school community! If you are looking to learn more about Article 7 and Special Education, then don’t miss the first learning event with SEPAC on Oct 6th.

If you LOVE Halloween, the students of the Rock Shop have the collection for you! With a specially-designed crewneck sweatshirt, hoodie and t-shirt, you can get outfitted for this spooky season.

The Rock Shop is a student-run, student-operated shop with student-designed items. So, in addition to getting the latest apparel, you're also helping students get real entrepreneurship experience before they even graduate!

On Friday, October 7, WWS board members and administrators will be at our local Crew Carwash to encourage people to take part in the community fundraising campaign to build the Westfield YMCA.

FCCLA Foodies Rock is a fully functioning foodservice operation that is student centered and fostered through the Westfield High School Culinary Arts program. Our members are highly trained in customer service, hospitality, culinary techniques, food safety and sanitation. Foodies Rock holds a Food Permit by the Hamilton County Board of Health, Advisors Nikki Heflin and Bryan Ferreira are ServSafe Manager certified, and will follow the National Restaurant Association’s Guidelines for food preparation. Chef Heflin and Chef Ferreira each have over 20 years of industry experience, and love guiding their students in making both the optics and cuisine for your event out of this world!
