TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 20
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
Thank you to all the families that participated in our Boosterthon this week. Monday is the last day. Please remember to pass on your student’s donation link. We understand that not everyone can donate, and that’s ok, pass it on to someone who may be able to, and if they can't, they can pass it on.
The backbone of this fundraiser is that it can spread and be shared. We look forward to hopefully announcing we met our goal on Monday.
Don’t forget the fun run is Monday. All students who register can participate (no donation needed)!
Sincerely,
Michael Singleton
Principal

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Whitaker
This week in Kindergarten, we began working on our Bubble science project. We learned about how bubbles always make a sphere shape, and how they are iridescent. Then we went outside and got to blow some bubbles. We have started our new ELA Module, "Home of the Free and the Brave" learning about America. We are still learning about fact families in Math, how to be a good friend at school in Social Studies, and we are getting ready to start learning about sound in Science.
FIRST
DiNuzzo
Happy Groundhogs Day! Today, in Ms. DiNuzzo’s class we learned all about Groundhogs Day and whether Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, saw his shadow or not. We also discovered our own personal shadows in the sunlight. In math, we are working on Topic 11 Adding and Subtracting 3-digit numbers up to 1,000. In reading, we are learning about Helen Keller and students are amazed that she accomplished so many things while being deaf and blind. In social studies, we have been learning about maps and globes. In science, we are learning about the beneficial and harmful properties of the sun. We used sunblock on construction paper to represent the sun's harmful rays and how we need to protect our skin when we are out in the sun for long periods of time.
Congrats to our December AR Winners!
Rayleigh, Enes, and Iris
Congrats to being one of the winners of the Book-A-Thon last week. We should be getting our popsicle party soon.
P.S. Punsutawney Phil did not see his shadow so we will have an early Spring!
Have a great weekend!
SECOND
Sonn
Second graders in Ms. Sonn's class are off to a lovely start in Semester 2/Quarter 3, after returning from a relaxing winter break. Students have been learning so much and growing leaps and bounds. Big news during Celebrate Literacy Week. Ms. Sonn's class won the AR Read-a-thon Challenge! They read and passed AR tests on 231 books in a single day! Other big news, students are preparing for a performance during Black History Night on Feb 29th 5:30pm. Be sure to save the date, as you don't want to miss this very special treat.
THIRD
Wullschleger
Our third-grade class has been buzzing with excitement and learning adventures. From engaging lessons to creative projects here are a couple of things we have been up to.
Math Marvels: We have been diving into Quadrilaterals, identifying shapes and using multiplication to find the area and perimeter of a square and rectangle.
Literacy Explorers: Our young readers have been on thrilling literacy journeys, exploring fascinating stories and expanding their imaginations.
FOURTH
Reflecting on the excitement of Literacy Week, our fourth graders immersed themselves in the Read-a-Thon. They read hundreds of books collaboratively. They brought to life their favorite book characters and enjoyed the lively parade.
This week, we've been engaged in fundraising with Booster Thon. We express our gratitude for your support and generous donations. Anticipation builds for our upcoming run on Monday!
FIFTH
Over the last two weeks the 5th grade classes have gone on a field trip to the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. It was a great experience where the students got to engage in several activities including touching sting rays, a snake, and a turtle, see active veterinarian care on a few turtles, and go into the inlet to catch some fish!
SPECIALS
Physical Education- Marathon Kids
What is Marathon Kids?
"Marathon Kids challenges youth to run, job, walk or move the equivalent of four (or more!) marathons throughout a season. Marathons are reached by kids finishing miles in achievable increments or completing minutes of heart-pumping activity."
This school year our 1st-6th graders are been participating in the Marathon Kids program and as of today we have already run 15,468 miles and 590 marathons as a school with our top five runners being:
L. Schuck : 98.80 mi
T. Toussaint: 90.00 mi
S. Devathi: 88.40 mi
S. Swain: 88.00 mi
S. Goli: 78.80 mi
SIXTH
Masuoka- P.E.
In PE, students learned about how regular physical activities reduce risks of coronary artery disease, diabetes, some cancers, and improve moods. They participate in walking/jogging/running every Wednesday during quarter 3.
Happy February! The OSES Character trait of the month is Kindness. This represents the ORCA value caring for my community.
WHAT IS KINDNESS? the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Kindness is all the different ways — both big and small — we express care, concern, and consideration for ourselves and those with whom we share the world.
FUN WAYS TO TEACH KINDNESS TO KIDS
*SEND KIND THOUGHTS. Kindness can sometimes be as simple as a wish for the well-being of others.
*SHARE STORIES OF KINDNESS. Choose books with kindness themes. There are many great stories to choose from! Stories are a powerful and highly influential way for kids to learn without direct teaching.
*SMILE MORE OFTEN. In a study conducted in Sweden, when people looked at others who were smiling, their muscles twitched into smiles involuntarily. Play a smiling game with your kids to show them how smiling truly is contagious. The simple act of smiling can spread the warmth of kindness far and wide, as others smile in return and continue to pass the smile on.
*PRACTICE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS. Random acts of kindness can be anything that will make someone's day a little brighter.
I’m excited to announce we are starting a Commendation Store. Students will be able to “shop” by earning 5 commendations in a week. Each grade level will have a commendation week, for example K is from Friday-Friday with prizes being distributed on Monday. If you would like to donate, please click here.
Kindness shows up as a supportive smile, a comforting embrace, and a helping hand when we need it the most — but may expect it the least.
