******** SUBSTITUTES, WE NEED YOUR HELP! ********
2021 NEW YEAR, GOOD NEWS!
The Board of Trustees has approved a daily incentive for substitutes to address lower substitute fill rates that are a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The additional $20/full day daily incentive and $10/half day daily incentive is designed to increase fill rates and provide support to campuses during the spring semester.
This incentive will be paid on top of any other incentives for substitutes. Substitutes will continue to receive the additional incentive of $5 for working on Mondays and $10 for working on Fridays. Substitutes working a full day of service at an ACE campus will also continue to receive the ACE $10-per-day incentive.
**This incentive is only for substitutes working at a campus location.
Please remember substitutes must accept five assignments a month to remain active in the substitute pool.

The safety and well-being of all Dallas ISD employees is a top priority, which is why the district is working with Dallas County Health and Human Services, Parkland Hospital and other organizations in the community to secure vaccines for staff. Employees who are 65 years of age or older and those who have serious chronic conditions as outlined in the state’s 1B phase guidelines are eligible to receive the vaccine. Dallas County Health and Human Services is currently scheduling appointments for individuals who are 55 or older with certain underlying conditions to receive vaccines at the county’s vaccination clinics.
If you meet the Phase 1B conditions, please, complete and submit the form to let us know you are interested in receiving the vaccine from Dallas ISD, and you will be contacted as it becomes available.
If you have any questions, please contact us by sending an email to covid19@dallasisd.org.

MANDATORY CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS TRAINING
Recently, you received an email regarding regulations by the State of Texas for all employees to complete an approved cybersecurity training. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Substitute Tips to Fine Tune
You’ve signed up to be a substitute teacher, and now you are doubting you made the right decision. Now you are wondering and find yourself asking questions. Will you ever get to teach something in my degree area? Will you ever understand this new math? Will today be the day that the teacher will leave lesson plans to follow? Will this school be as bad as they say it could be? But the number one question in your mind is will I be able to survive the day? The answer is yes to all your wonderings. However, we do not hold the key to the order or dictation of the experience. Here are a couple of tips that can help fine tune your experience.
Be Prepared
- The night before know where you are going, who you are replacing for the day, grade and subject matter you will be teaching.
- Review your substitute handbook, Learning Standards for the grade and subject, also plan for no lesson plans.
- Arrive at your assignment earlier than requested. This will allow time for you to walk into the building, find the front office, and possibly ask questions in regards to the expectations for the day.
- Be alert and aware at all times. You cannot properly monitor sitting behind the desk, talking or texting on your cell phone, or with your back toward students while on the computer.
- Use professional ethics – your private and personal business stays outside the school building.
Be Flexible
- Be prepared just in case the assignment changes. (ex. You thought you were teaching 3rd grade math. Now they will like for you to teach Kindergarten.
- Be ready for if the school decides to have a safety drill. This may be a fire drill, tornado drill, evacuation, or school lockdown.
- Be willing to carry the lesson out or extend the lesson. You may have to create a quick game, do readers theater, or even just work through the lesson together as a class.
- Take accurate notes about any incidents or discipline problems that may occur.
- Remember, as a substitute you are the adult in the classroom.
TEACHER FEEDBACK REGARDING SUBSTITUTE PERFORMANCE
As a reminder, you will be evaluated on your performance by the teacher you are substituting for. We've provided the questions that the teachers will answer below, as a way to guide your efforts in their absence.
- Was all classroom work collected?
- Was the room left as neat and clean as it was found?
- Was classroom work explained satisfactorily?
- Did students report that they were treated fairly and consistently?
- Were any disciplinary issues reported?
