St. Luke Weekly SMORE
December 5, 2021
Leadership Message
The second candle we light on the Advent wreath this week represents peace. We often refer to the Christ Child as the Prince of Peace. We exchange a sign of peace during Mass. We pray for peace in our world, our families, our selves. Nobel awards a Peace Prize. We assume that God's reign will be one of Peace on Earth.
In the Hebrew Bible, “shalom” is translated “peace." Shalom is about wholeness. Each part of us (e.g., cells, organs, systems) is a whole entity, working for the good of the whole. Each person is part of larger wholes. Ultimately we are integral parts of our interconnected, expanding creation. No one and no thing can be excised from that whole.
This week challenge yourself and your child(ren) to make peace in your hearts and to take a moment to say a prayer for those in need of peace in their lives.
“Perfect peace from God isn’t found in forgetting.
Shalom peace is a putting back together.
God whispers-
I love all of you.
I am your peace.”
Have a fantastic second week of Advent,
Cathy Hinger
Our Leadership Team will be collecting Lonnies for the Lurana Shelter during the Advent Session. Lurana Shelter is a part of Catholic Social Services who is working hard to end violence against women and their children by helping to break the cycle of abuse, while uplifting victims as they rebuild their lives, free from fear and violence. Lurana Shelter is a first-stage, emergency shelter providing safe, secure refuge and emergency services such as food, clothing, transportation and child support as well as specialized services related to counselling and advocacy. For every &100.00 raised our school can purchase a Basket of Blessing for Lurana Shelter.
