Happy Read Across America Week!
Reading, reading, reading is happening throughout our whole schoolhouse in hallways, classrooms, videos, Facebook and the list goes on! Lake Street's love of reading was evident as we celebrated Read Across America Week in the Dolphin Pool. A couple of the read aloud videos posted on Facebook are linked below and were shared in our classrooms as we focused on fractured fairy tales during the kickoff of our “One School, One Book” Initiative. The three little pigs visited Lake Street and the Big Bad Wolves found them out. The kids were so excited to see the three houses of brick, sticks and straw. Today culminated with the wolf reveal and storyteller extraordinaire, Grant Fitch who shared the love of reading through storytelling for all of our dolphins! He is simply fantastic. The love of reading was sure on display and felt throughout the Dolphin Pool this week.
Our philanthropic student body and parents really rallied around the NEHS fundraiser for the Leukemia/Lymphoma organization. The top three classes and funds raised are below:
· 1st place – Mrs. McBride’s class and they will silly string the teacher
· 2nd place – Mrs. Uylaki’s class and they will have a popcorn movie day
· 3rd place – Mrs. Foster’s class and they will have a PJ/movie day
A total of $8,956 was raised for this worthy cause. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
All of our spring clubs are getting underway this month of March; Girls on the Run, CHAMPS, STEAM Club, Math Bowl is ongoing as is our Science Club, Robotics, Choir, and our Dolphin Splash Newspaper Club.
We are so fortunate to have a wonderful community of learners at Lake Street! Enjoy the almost 70’s tomorrow…happy spring (well soon anyways) Mrs. Cindy Wise
The Café needs one week's notice for Birthday ice cream celebrations. They are selling ice cream daily and cannot guarantee they would have enough if called the day before. Please call 219-663-5683 to be connected to our Kitchen Manager.
