Saying Farewell to February
As we close out another month of school, I want to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic things that happened around Patrick Henry throughout February. We celebrated Black History Month not only with our Black History Month Talent Show (see this special edition of the Patrick Henry Post for more photos of our amazing performers), but also with our classroom research projects and learning experiences. Our teachers took this month to hone in on the incredible history and legacy of Black Americans. Teachers gave students the opportunity to explore inventors, doctors, scientists, musicians, artists, athletes, teachers, professors, astronauts, moms, dads, grandparents, and so many Black Americans who changed the world for the better. I want to thank our teachers for providing the time, energy, and resources to give our students the chance to celebrate and learn about this legacy of excellence, and allow it to inspire our students for their own futures. As we all know, Black History Month is a dedicated time to celebrate, but Black history is American history, and we will continue to learn, celebrate, and honor Black history throughout the school year.
This month we also celebrated Valentine's Day, a day filled with love and friendship. It was not until I worked in an elementary school that I fully appreciated Valentine's Day. In this world of young students and their teachers, Valentine's Day is really a celebration of all things kind. We pass out little gifts to our friends, we give extra hugs, and we tell each other how much we love each other. This is another celebration that though there's a designated day for it, we also celebrate love throughout the school year. I love working at a school where we truly feel the love every day from our students, staff, families, and community partners.
Stop and smell the roses
Deonte had a brief moment and learned about all the different colors of roses that exist. Immediately following this photo-op, Deonte sneezed exactly twelve times.
Dean of Students moment of fun
Ms. Hill and Damiya accidentally twinned this week! Who doesn't love a puffy twin?
PBS Kids
Keith earned computer time while he was working in Ms. Shea's classroom, and found fun activities on PBS Kids, a great resource for classroom and home!
The Writing Process
Ibrahim showed his writing process proudly for the First Grade Gazette. Students had to write a first draft, go through the editing process, and write a final draft.
Lending a helping hand
When an older class went downstairs and bumped into a preschool class, it was second nature for our older students to take care of our younger students. I love the kind nature of our students.
The joys of being a teacher's kid
It can be really fun being the child of a teacher, and George and Charles really seem to make the most out of it! Their smiles always bring joy wherever they go.
Reading Room Upgrades
Dr. Rogers' mom replaced the bulletin boards with fabrics that will last for years to continue to improve the Reading Room. Take a look at the new patterns next time you're reading!
Reading Room Upgrades
Photos of students reading will be going back on the bulletin boards. We love catching students in the Reading Room, will you be on the bulletin board next?
