💬 Superintendent's Message 💬

Dear Hingham Community,

Last month, the School Committee approved a level service budget. This month, the level service budget was also approved by subsequent town boards, including the Advisory Committee and Select Board. The level services budget would allow the schools to maintain current programming and staff. As a reminder, this level of service budget will require an override with a majority vote at both Town Meeting and on the ballot. A reminder that the Town Meeting occurs right after April vacation on Monday, April 24th at 7 PM, with the ballot vote on Saturday, April 29th. Please continue to be engaged in the next few weeks leading up to Town Meeting. The Town of Hingham has established a website for information about the override. All of the budget information for the schools is also posted on our website here.

This month, I also shared my entry plan final report with the School Committee. The purpose of an entry plan final report is to document my learning during the past few months of the Hingham Public Schools and create the foundation for collective planning and decision-making moving forward. The report highlighted the many strengths from my analysis and opportunities for growth and further inquiry. The process has been rewarding. The community has been so welcoming and gracious throughout my entry. The staff, school, and district leaders have been great partners as well in providing feedback and resources that have helped shape the document.

I am grateful for the time of all who have supported me in the past few months.

East Elementary

Grade 4 students were tasked with lobbying support for notable Black leaders or notable women to earn their place on a US Postal Stamp. Students researched notable achievements, constructed persuasive arguments, and shared their notable figures with grade-level peers before producing their final products.

Foster Elementary

During the month of March, the first grade Kindness Club sponsored a school-wide donation drive to collect items for the Scituate Animal Shelter in celebration of Opry the comfort dog’s birthday. With the help of the fifth grade student council and high school buddies, first graders made fleece dog and cat toys to send to the animal shelter. Opry was even gifted her very own special fleece toy and was given hand made birthday cards.

Plymouth River Elementary

PRS students were fortunate enough to hear great folktales and memoirs told by an internationally acclaimed storyteller, Len Cabral. Thanks to a METCO grant, all grades were able to participate in this engaging activity.

South Elementary

In the month of March, South School had a wonderful kindness theme entitled " Kindness Marches on at South Elementary School" It consisted of many things: a kick-off kindness assembly; a kindness bingo game for staff; a kindness reading incentive program for students; many projects school-wide

Hingham Middle School

Students, staff, and families came together for the first ever World Cultures Night and had the opportunity to share traditional cuisines, games, and stories with one another. This event continues Hingham Middle School’s yearlong theme of #CountMeIn

Hingham High School

Hingham High Drama advanced to the METG Festival semi-finals this month after their noteworthy performance of the Caucasian Chalk Circle at the preliminaries. Congratulations to HHS Drama for their performances, and to all of the students who took home individual awards. For more information, visit our website.

The 2023-2024 HPS School Calendar has been approved by the Hingham School Committee.

Please note, the last day of school is subject to change based on next year's snow days/school closures.

Important Dates

1st day of school (Gr. 1-12) - Sept. 5
1st day of school for Kindergarten - Sept. 7
1st day of school for Pre-K - Sept. 11

Winter Break - Dec. 23 - Jan. 1, students return on Jan. 2

🏫 School Showcase 🏫

Foster Elementary School Showcase

Foster Elementary staff and students presented a showcase of their school and highlighted their 1st-grade Kindness Club at the 3/13 Hingham School Committee Meeting.

South Elementary School Showcase

South Elementary students in grades 1-5 described their experiences at South and also performed the heartfelt song, "Nothing More". This showcase occurred at the 3/27 Hingham School Committee Meeting.
