High Ability Spring Identification Deadlines
The Indiana Department of Education requires school districts to identify high ability (gifted) students and provide them with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. In ZCS, we reconsider ability and achievement data of all students each spring to identify any who may need further consideration for high ability identification. While the High Ability designation is a state-required label for students, our school district is committed to continuous progress for all students, regardless of designation. Accelerated content is common in our classrooms as are heightened expectations and instructional levels and high-achieving peers. Instructional methods regularly group and regroup students with differentiated materials and goals. Whether or not a child is identified as High Ability, our teachers are committed to regular assessment of skills and knowledge and matching experiences to challenge each child and help him or her make maximum academic growth. We are proud to be a high-performing school district with high expectations for all students.
For students currently in grades 1st, 2nd or 3rd: If a child is being included in the group of students being further considered for possible high ability identification, then his/her parents will receive an email from the High Ability Office by Friday, March 10th. If a child is not being further considered for possible identification, (i.e. no email has been received by Friday, 3/10), parents may also recommend him or her. To do so, the parents simply complete the Parent Observation Form available on the High Ability website under K-4 High Ability Forms here - and submit to the school counselor by not later than Thursday, March 30th. Students already identified as high ability learners continue with their current placement and do not need to requalify from year to year. If they are identified in only one area (language arts or math) and are being considered for identification in the other academic area, parents will receive notification by Friday, March 10th, that they are in the pool for consideration during the spring process. Parents with questions should contact their school counselor.
For students currently in grades 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th: If a child is being included in the group of students being further considered for possible high ability identification, then his/her parents will receive an email from the High Ability Office by Wednesday, March 1st. If a child is not identified for the next step in the process, (i.e. no email was received by Wed, March 1st), but parents feel strongly that he/she should have been, parents may also recommend him or her. To do so, the parents simply complete the Parent Nomination Form (available on the district website under Academics/High Ability -Gifted Program) – click here and submit to the address listed on the form by Friday, March 17th. Students already identified as high ability learners continue with their current placement and do not need to requalify from year to year. If they are identified in only one area (language arts or math) and are being considered for identification in the other academic area, parents will receive notification by Wednesday, March 1st, that they are in the pool for consideration during the spring process. Parents with questions should contact their school counselor.
ZEF Update
Congratulations to the Zionsville Sports Network and ZCHS Color Guard and Indoor Percussion! Both student groups recently received Student Enrichment Grants from Zionsville Education Foundation.
Zionsville Sports Network (ZSN) is a student-founded, student-run broadcast network for Zionsville schools sporting events. Students started the network with borrowed equipment, and after the network’s popularity grew the students asked ZEF to help them purchase more equipment to broaden their reach. The network can be found on various social media at @ZvilleSports.
ZEF helped ZCHS’s award-winning Color Guard and Indoor Percussion by supplying funds for needed equipment. As the ZCHS band programs have grown and earned state and national recognition, ZEF was able to fund new tarps and backgrounds for both programs.
Your donation to ZEF encourages students to initiate leadership and cultivate responsibility. To help us help fund future student endeavors, visit: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/ZionsvilleEducationFoundatio/Donate.html/

BME Kindy Round-Up
Hiring Guest Teachers!
Zionsville Community School is hiring Guest Teachers! Quality guest teachers are an important asset to our schools and require special attributes to enhance our students’ learning process. The best guest teachers demonstrate the desire to work well with children ages 3-18, relate well to all students, inspire a love of learning and have a good sense of humor. In addition, they must be flexible, dedicated, patient, kind, fair and consistent.
Guest teachers can manage the days of the week they are available to work through an automated system called Aesop. This user-friendly system is accessible online or through a touch-tone phone which allows ZCS teachers to enter absences and guest teachers to select available jobs.
If you meet the above requirements and would like to start the application process.
After your employment application has been submitted, please send an email to our Sub Coordinator at Subcoordinator@zcs.k12.in.us confirming that you would like to be considered for a guest teacher position at Zionsville Community Schools.

School Visitor Check-Ins at ZCS
Please be aware that we use a visitor management system known as SafeVisitor. SafeVisitor is a 30-45 second check-in process that cross references against all national sex offender registries and prints a visitor badge. Please be prepared to scan a government issued ID (Driver License) when arriving to campus as a visitor or volunteer. The printed badge should be visible at all times while in the building. Thank you!
Please note: Full background checks are still required field trips. Full background checks cost $15.95 and take at least 7-10 days to process. Limited background checks are still required for lunch visits, volunteering in a supervised area, etc.
**Bullying Video**
All volunteers in our district are also required to complete the bullying module, consisting of a short video and a digital signature as proof of watching the video. This video must be watched for either level of volunteer (Full or Limited). Please click here to visit the BRAVO/Volunteers page where all of these items can be completed.
