Rio Norte News - October 20, 2023
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
Our students did a FANTASTIC job with our disaster drill on Thursday. Thank you to our staff who frontloaded expected behavior and suggestions for how students could appropriately spend their time, while the rest of our staff checked our process. It was wonderful to see kids playing cards, games, knitting, reading, and just talking with one another. We had great success with some improvements that were made and, as always, learned things that will help us in the future. We appreciate the conversations that you have been having at home with your child and I am pleased to report that we have not received phone calls or emails from the community, which we HOPE means our students are representing what we expect, and what you expect, when adults aren't around.
Today on RioTV I continued my SOAR series with Part 2 on Accepting Differences. I addressed the importance of getting to know our students with special challenges. I hope you have a moment to watch. I was pleasantly surprised to have a few students approach me already today at brunch about how this message helped them realize the importance of branching out to get to know their fellow River Hawks who have incredible things to teach each of us.
Our PTSA Reflections Gala was a great evening for some incredible artists at Rio who were brave enough to display their work to our judges and our community. Be sure to see our list of winners below!

Finally, it was fun to pay forward some kindness last weekend! In one act, I got to see the joy of the person receiving and in the other I just had to hope it brightened a strangers day. Did you join me? If not, that's ok, there is always this weekend!
Sincerely,
Brenda Bennett
