SOPHOMORES: Qualify to Win $40,000 Just By Planning for Your Future!
Attention WTHS class of 2025: Hundreds of $500 scholarships and at least two $40,000 scholarships are being awarded each month to students who take steps toward their career and education after high school. There is no required essay, minimum GPA or test score. You qualify yourself by taking steps to get ready for life after high school. If your family’s income is less than $60,000 per year, you will get extra chances at these scholarships and earn double the entries for every drawing. UW-Milwaukee Invites Latinx Students to Casa Abierta, 1/28
UWM is hosting Casa Abierta on Saturday, January 28, 2023. This is a bilingual event for prospective Latinx students. The day is specifically set up for Spanish-speaking high school students and their families. At Casa Abierta families will be able to:
- Take a tour of our beautiful campus—offered fully in Spanish or English.
- Attend a student panel and ask questions about student life at UWM.
- Learn more about our admissions process and DACA.
- Meet the Roberto Hernandez Center team.

ASVAB & Career Exploration Program
WTHS is hosting the ASVAB for interested WTHS Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors on Saturday, January 28 at 9:00 a.m. at the Almond Campus. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assesses a student's ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs. It produces Career Exploration Scores that can aid in the exploration of a wide variety of career options. This would be a great test to take if you are unsure what you’d like to do in the future. The ASVAB is offered at no cost to you and there is no military obligation just by taking the test. Interested students can sign-up in the Guidance Office with Mrs. Ellis (O'Plaine) or Mrs. Maggiore (Almond) upon return from break. Note, we will offer another ASVAB administration on March 18.
Industry Speaker Series: Plumber, 1/24
Our featured industry for the month of January is plumbing (January 24).
This would be a good presentation for you to attend if you:
- Are an effective problem solver
- Like to work with your hands
- Can demonstrate physical and mental strength and endurance
- Don't mind math
- Have efficient interpersonal communication skills
By attending, students can expect to gain knowledge about the industry and jobs available within. Information shared may include: job history, job outlook, responsibilities, required training/education and practical advice and tips. Stayed tuned next semester for more info on attending.
Attend CLC's Apprenticeship Awareness Program & Earn $225!!!
To bring awareness to their Apprenticeship Programs, the College of Lake County is hosting a Spring Break, Apprenticeship Awareness Program on Zoom March 27 - 31 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, daily. Lake County high school students are eligible to register. By attending, students can expect to learn about CLC's lucrative apprenticeship apprenticeship career pathways in the following industries:
Automotive Collision Repair (ACR)
Automation Robotics /Mechatronics (ARM)
Business Administration
Early Childhood Education
Horticulture
Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Industrial Technology (INT)
Network Administration/ Cybersecurity
Precision Machining Technology (PMT).
Space is limited to 35 students (first-come, first-served). To apply students submit the fillable PDF forms linked below and email the completed required app and docs to cjpc.apprenticeships@clcillinois.edu.

Need a Work Permit?
Students under the age of 16 are required by the Illinois Department of Labor to have a work permit. If you have been hired, your employer will provide you with a letter of intent to employ at your request. You will need the letter, your social security card, birth certificate and you will also need a current physical on file to be issued a work permit. Bring these items to Mrs. Ellis in Student Services in the Main Office and see her with any questions.
