Rimu Hub
Term 2 2024 What's Happening in our Class!
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Term Two is well underway! Nau Mai Haere Mai!
Thank you all for preparing your children so well for school. Rachael and I thoroughly enjoy greeting them and their happy faces each day.
We noted the participation levels for Cross Country this year over the whole school were much better. Rimu ran well and they all tried their best! Thanks for volunteering to help out as marshalls. It is such an important job.
The Term 2 newsletter has important notes in it, please read it and keep it handy somewhere for reference throughout the term. We have included a copy of our class timetable for your interest.
The clear support of the Ministry around the implementation of Structured Literacy throughout NZ this past few weeks confirms our adoption of this approach some years ago as positive. We are well supported by our Resource Teacher of Literacy Whaea Liz.
Our application for professional learning hours with Maths Associates (Numicon) has resulted in 50 hours! This is fantastic particularly as it is Ministry funded now.
If you have questions as to how to support your children with the current approaches please do not hesitate to ask how it all works!
The whole school Mass this term is Sunday 26th May at 9.30 am. Holy Trinity Sunday. Readers and students with other tasks will be chosen over the next week.
Class Trip 2024: There has been no decision on this yet, except we would like to keep it local this year. It will need to be in Term 4 to avoid Music Festival and Production focus in Term 3. We aim to keep the cost no more than $100/child.

Assessment and Reporting
Formative assessment of your child's learning happens daily. With your child's learning goals in mind teachers are constantly adjusting/readjusting the learning to stretch and grow children academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Reporting formally to parents, on your child's progress over time, happens this term.
Interviews or Learning discussions will be conducted before the reports go out this year. Interviews or learning discussions will be held in Week 7 on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of June. Interviews are after school for 10 minutes per child. Your child may attend.
Reports will go out in the last week of the Term.
Following the interviews and feedback from parents, there should be 'no surprises' in the report form.
If Interviews are unable to be attended teachers will be happy to organise separate times.
Of course both Rachael and Suzanne are available to speak with parents throughout the term, all we request is that you txt or email us, so we can make a specific time available for you.
What does the water in our tohu (emblem) represent and where does it come from?
St. Joseph's School Tohu/Emblem
At the heart of our school is the Cross (Celtic cross). The cross is a sign of both Christ himself and that the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity.
The blue and green colors are symbolic of the Rangi me to Whenua (sky and earth), from which life comes and goes.
The railway line is Te Ara Rerewe o Turongo that runs through Te Kuiti. Its korero holds a place in our local history. Te Ara Tika is St Joseph’s link to Te Kuiti town and the facilities we use as a Kura.
The awa is the Mangaokewa. Water is especially significant to us in our liturgies and symbolises the respect we have for all life from conception to natural death and the environments within which life journeys.
Originally the design was created by our students and overtime has been developed into the tohu it is today.
