Save the Date for the BCPS International Culture Night and Art Walk!
Save the Date for the BCPS International Culture Night and Art Walk!
Thursday, April 25th 5:30pm--7:30pm
We are so excited to be holding our International Culture Night and Art Walk again this year! For those of you not familiar with this event, this night is a vibrant and lively celebration of the many cultures within Boeckman Creek. In previous years, we have had over 40 different countries and cultures represented, all in one spectacular evening! We invite Boeckman students and their families to host a table to decorate and display artifacts representing the chosen culture. Families are also invited to come dressed in the native ceremonial dress. Participation in the event is free and there is no cost to attend.
We end this festive night with our Art Walk. Families have the opportunity to walk the halls of our school admiring the beautiful art work of our students.
If you are interested in hosting a table please email Debbie Pritchett (pritched@wlwv.k12.or.us) or Sandi Laschober (laschobs@wlwv.k12.or.us), or fill out this Google Form. If you have any questions about how you might be a part of this special night, you can also contact the school office at (503) 673-7750.
Every Day Matters: The Importance of Attendance and On Time Arrival
This year at BCPS, we are focused on improving student attendance and on time arrival as this helps students have the best possible school experience. Your child's regular attendance encourages academic and social-emotional success.
Missed days add up quickly. When a student misses as few as two days per month, that's 10% of the school year. At this level of absenteeism, students fall behind academically. Over time, ongoing absences make catching up seem overwhelming.
When a student arrives late, besides missing academic instruction, they miss out on morning meetings and the review of classroom routines and plans for the day which are practices that set a student up for success.
Students with solid attendance and on time arrival are much more likely to be successful during school and after graduation, and this begins in elementary school!
We know there are many reasons why students may miss school or arrive late, and we are here to support families in improving their child's attendance. Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher, the office, or our school counselor, Julia Carr, for support. Please let us know how we can partner with you to set your child up for success.

Vision Screening and Opt Out Information
Nursing Services in conjunction with Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation will be holding vision screening on February 27th for all students in grades K-5. Once again we will be using the spot vision screener technology.
If you would like to request that your student be opted out of vision screening, please send a note to your student's teacher with this request on the day of screening.
Rainy Recess
As the weather changes and we start to see more rain and cold weather, please be sure to send your student to school with weather appropriate clothing. A rain jacket or other coat with a hood is recommended. We want students to be able to have an outdoor break and be able to return to the classroom warm and dry and ready to learn.
