Athletic Summaries: Week of 1/17
Girls basketball returned from the break with a tough loss against a strong Barnstable team, 65-55. Everyone worked hard. On Tuesday, we traveled to CCA for our first league game and unfortunately took another tough loss. Lucy Mawn and Tatiana Malone were a force on defense. Great performances throughout the weeks by Caroline Digiovanni. The whole team has brought a lot of energy and effort over this week’s practices as we prepare to travel over to the island and face Nantucket for our second league game today. (Melissa Velasquez, junior captain)
BOYS BASKETBALL
This week boys basketball had an alright week. We started off with an amazing practice on Monday and then had a game against CCA. We had a hard fought game with a lot of hustle but it ended in a loss 67-51. The rest of the week we had practices and a couple of the big things we worked on was ball handling with pressure and press break defense. We play a tough Nantucket team today and we will see how that goes. (Michael Rocco, senior captain)
GIRLS HOCKEY
On January 15 Furies beat Mansfield 3-1. Furies ended the first period down by one goal, but worked consistently and scored two more in the second and third periods. The next day, Sunday the team participated in their first dryland practice. It took place at Cape Cod Health and Fitness due to the efforts of team parents. On January 17 Furies traveled to Tony Kent Arena and tied with DY 1-1 at the Cod Fish Cup. After being up one for the majority of the game DY scored during the third period. DY and Furies went into overtime and the score still remained tied. On January 19 Furies traveled to Gallo Ice Arena and beat BMWOOR 6-2. Furies started off with a slow first and second period. During the third period 3 goals were scored against the opposing team. (Eve Abboud, senior captain)
