The Importance of Preventive Screenings
A common misperception about annual physical exams and preventive screenings is that they are the same thing.
An annual physical exam checks your overall health. Your primary care physician will evaluate the basic function of your body, address any concerns, update your vaccinations, and help you get healthy or maintain good health.
Preventive care screenings (aka age/gender appropriate screenings) can identify abnormal changes to your health, and help with early detection of chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or cancer. Most people don’t experience cancer symptoms when diseases are in their earliest, most treatable stages. That’s why screenings are recommended at certain times and intervals throughout your life. The age/gender appropriate screenings are outlined in the Wellness Program Summary as one activity. It is optional and worth 20 points. Your primary care physician must indicate on the age/gender form that you are up-to-date on all of the preventive screenings in order to receive credit. You cannot earn partial/lesser points if you’re partially up to date.
