Hopefully all our Nighthawks have settled into a routine and enjoying trimester 1 classes.

This is our first Counseling Newsletter of the new school year. The Counseling Department will send out a monthly newsletters sharing information through the Smore platform. Please note that new information will be added throughout the month as information and opportunities come up. You can also review an archive of prior months on the counseling website.

We have two additions to our counseling team this year. Below are the names of our counselors along with their alpha split. Caseloads are divided alphabetically by student's last name.

AP EXAMS

AP EXAMS AP® Exams are optional exams at Del Norte High School that correspond to AP® courses. Students choosing to sit for the AP® Exams must adhere to specific deadlines for 2023-2024 that are based on the course’s start date. The cost of each AP Exam is $110. Attention 11th and 12th graders, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be offering an informational career presentation showcasing careers in aviation. Come learn about the life and career journey of a Blue Angel Pilot. This opportunity is by sign-up only at https://forms.gle/7hApDnCVQz2zCt3T6. The link to sign up will be sent to all juniors and seniors in Canvas or see Mrs. Reich in Counseling. This presentation will be held in the PAC on Friday, September 22nd at 8:30am. You will be excused from first period.

College Rep Visits will start the week of September 11th. This is an opportunity for our Nighthawks to meet with different college and university reps from around the country. Seniors can finalize their college application lists, juniors can start making their college interest list and sophomores and freshman can begin the college research journey - all grades are welcome!

Meetings will be held during Lunch and Office Hours. We prefer you sign-up to attend the visit on Naviance so that we can get an idea of interest. If you have questions about this process, please see Mrs. Reich in Counseling or email, sreich@powayusd.com

As a reminder, students under 18 years of age are required by state law to have a work permit issued through their home school. Work permits have to be renewed each school year. Students may not work until the actual work permit has been issued. This also applies to students who work for a parent. Work permits take approximately 3-4 days to process so please plan accordingly. Del Norte is offering the the PSAT/NMSQT only to 10th and 11th grade students currently attending Del Norte.

TEST DATE: Saturday October 14, 2023

TEST TIME: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
