A Message From the Principals
The importance of arriving at school early or on time each day cannot be emphasized enough. Students who arrive early are afforded sufficient time to settle in, greet their teachers, put up their backpacks, sharpen their pencils, and transition into their school work in a focused and organized manner. Timeliness helps students develop the habit of being punctual and illustrates to them your commitment to their learning.
Beginning at 7:00 a.m., the school doors open and teachers are on duty to supervise and greet the students. Breakfast is available from 7:10 - 7:40 if your child wishes to eat at school.
The outside doors are closed at 7:40 a.m. to allow staff members to come inside and begin their teaching day. If you arrive after this time, you will need to escort your children into the building to sign them in. This is critical for keeping all of our students safe.
Let us know if we can help in any way. Our goal is to have 100% of our students in their classrooms prior to 7:40 a.m. when instruction begins each day!

A Note From the Nurse
As the weather gets colder and we go through fall into winter, a reminder that we are starting to see an increase of flu cases. We are still seeing COVID cases. No matter the season, we continue to have strep throat, pink eye, and other viral and bacterial infections.
To protect all children from communicable illnesses, students infected with certain diseases are not allowed to come to school while they are contagious. Students should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
The guidelines below have been developed for the exclusion of students who have communicable or contagious diseases. These regulations are in compliance with the requirements of the local health authority, Plano ISD Administrative Guidelines, and the Board of Trustees’ appointed medical officer.
A student with any of the following symptoms will be excluded from school until such time as the student is free of symptoms, has been satisfactorily treated, or submits a signed physician’s statement that he/she is not contagious.
*Temperature of 100.0 degrees or more. Student must be fever free for 24 hours, without medication, before re-entry.
*Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Student must be symptom free for 24 hours without medication before re-entry.
*Pain and/or swelling at angle of jaw.
*Undetermined rash over any part of the body.
*Undiagnosed scaly patches on the body or scalp.
*Red, draining eyes.
*Intense itching with signs and symptoms of secondary infection.
*Open, draining lesions.
*Jaundice
Please send me an email or call me if you have any questions or concerns about when your child is able to return to school.

Free and Reduced Lunch
As you know the grace period ended on September 20 and unless families have reapplied, students have been moved to paid lunches. As a reminder, Plano ISD participates in the federal meal program, which provides free and reduced-price meals to students who qualify. Families who may qualify for meal benefits should complete a meal application for the 2023-24 school year, available through Parent Portal or via the website at www.pisd.edu/mealprogram. Families who already have a SchoolCafé account can sign in to complete the meal application. Families who do not have an account can create a new one by selecting that option on the SchoolCafé page. View this SchoolCafé information video for instructions on how to complete the meal application.
Weekly Lunch & Learn or Rise & Shine Virtual Workshops

2023-2024 Renewal of Free or Reduced-price Meals
The United States Department of Agriculture waiver that allowed Plano ISD to provide free meals to all students during the 2022-23 school year has expired.
- Plano ISD will resume charging for meals during the 2023-24 school year based on student eligibility for meal benefits.
- Families who may qualify are encouraged to complete a federal meal application for free and reduced-price meals.
- The 2022-23 meal application will be honored for the first 30 days of the 2023-24 school year.
Plano ISD Volunteer System - VOLY
The Plano ISD volunteer management system is VOLY. This application must be completed annually.
- Create an account and complete an application, online orientation, and criminal history check. These items need to be completed each school year by volunteers to be eligible for district/school volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can visit plano.voly.org to create a volunteer account and begin this process.
- An email will be sent to the volunteer applicant communicating the status of their application and criminal history search within 3-5 business days of completing these steps. Volunteer approval status can also be viewed by the volunteer by logging into their account. Volunteers will need to complete the online orientation as well to be eligible to volunteer.
- Once approved, they will be able to sign up for volunteer opportunities directly through the VOLY platform at plano.voly.org. Volunteers should be sure to select all of the schools they are interested in volunteering with when asked on their application. This will allow campuses to see their volunteers and their status in the system. These school selections can also be changed by the volunteer by logging into their account at any time.
- Volunteers can find more details on the approval process at pisd.edu/volunteer.
Need Assistance?
- For volunteer technical assistance, such as password retrieval and issues with accounts, please direct them to vol.cayzu.com.

A Note From Mrs. Canfield
This month we are talking about responsibility. One way to define responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others. Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students "Be Strong."
Pursuit #2
Review responsibility as a family! Responsibility is taking action and understanding how our choices affect others. Choose 1 household chore (or more!) that requires multiple steps. Then have each member of the family select 1 step to complete to help get the job done! Maybe it is washing the dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the living room, or unloading the groceries - whatever it is, see who can be the quickest or most effective at their task!
