Reopening Schools - Imagine Camas
Thank you to the 500 plus participants in our first virtual Town Hall Meeting last Thursday and the more than 1,000 of you who watched the Town Hall through https://youtu.be/ogqZs7APT2A. We compiled our conversation for your review at Virtual Town Hall, June 4, 2020. You can see each thought that was contributed through themes and its rating. We encourage you to explore the results using the interactive tools. There is diversity in the ideas shared and competing priorities. Reviewing will allow you to see how your ideas compare to others in the community and give you more context about decision-making moving forward.
The state task force for reopening schools released REOPENING WASHINGTON SCHOOLS 2020: DISTRICT PLANNING GUIDE on 6/11/20. General principles in the guidance include a strong push for in-person instruction in the fall if health department guidelines can be met, and the need to be prepared with a hybrid learning model involving a rotating schedule and/or an enhanced form of distance learning. The OSPI guidance also instructs districts to promote social distancing, screen for illness, wear face coverings and promote good hygiene practices in order to limit the spread of the virus, along with the canceling or modifying activities that call for large group gatherings.
We have our structures in place to do the work necessary to prepare for the fall. Thank you to the hundreds who reached out to help in our effort. We will thoroughly review the guidelines, engage our staff and community in discussions about reopening plans, and work with our leadership team to develop a local plan for our schools based on the state’s recommendations. Information about opportunities to weigh in on the school reopening conversation will be forthcoming.
Please know that our number one priority is always the health and safety of our students and staff. This priority will be at the heart of every decision we make. This is uncharted territory and there will be some elements of the plan that will need to be worked out along the way. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this process and promise to stay in close communication with you moving forward. We also appreciate your response to the surveys we are sending out. We will be sending out another one next week specifically focused on the state guidelines. Your ideas are important to us.
Mill Town Pride Awards
Caden Koranda
Cascadia Tech Academy awarded its highest honor to CHS senior Caden Koranda: Distinguished Graduate. This award highlights one student from each program area who exemplifies the technical, academic, 21st Century, and employability skills at the highest level. The winner of this award represents the most accomplished youth at Cascadia Tech Academy and their achievements are notable beyond that of their peers. Congratulations to Caden for this award in Diesel Technology.
Jocelyn Mercado Flores
Jocelyn Mercado Flores was nominated by one of her teachers at CHS for exhibiting resilience and responsiveness during our school closure. Her teacher writes, “Jocelyn consistently does more than what is required- everything from watching double the number of assigned EdPuzzles, and detailed answers on case studies, to her latest video of her testing a sibling's 12 cranial nerves!” Great work, Jocelyn!

Do you or someone you know have an incoming kindergartener?
Well, now is time to register for fall! We are so very sad that we're not having our normal Kindergarten Roundup events in our schools this month. However, we're tentatively planning for kindergarten orientation in August where families will meet teachers and staff, learn about the curriculum, and take a ride on a real school bus!
To get started, visit http://bit.ly/CamasReg to register online. Questions? Contact our district registrars at CSD.Registrar@camas.wednet.edu or at 360-833-5410.
