Classroom Updates
Dear Kindergarten Families,
February is a busy month! Please be on the lookout for February Conference schedules coming out from your child’s teacher. This month in Kindergarten we will continue to work on our K-2 essential skills which include I can do my personal best, I can ask for help, I can follow instructions, I can act responsibly, and I can ask permission.
In ELA we will continue to work on finishing up Unit 6 which focused on stories about seasons and weather. We will also be starting Unit 7 focusing on stories about animals, pets, and habitats. Please continue working on sight words learned so far as well as new ones that will be introduced.
In math, students will be working on developing a conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction. They will learn to represent situations with number sentences and model story problems in various ways. Students explore number relationships through sorting, games, and math stories. They will use number bonds and number sentences to record part–total relationships. They also practice different methods for representing story situations including put together with total unknown and put together with both addends unknown.
Please continue to watch the weather as it changes in order to make sure that students are dressed appropriately for the changing temperatures.
January has flown by! In February we will continue to build on skills we have been working on in January. In math, we will keep learning about concepts of area and applying properties. Reading this month will be focused on skills around point of view, comparing and contrasting skills. In reading, we will continue to build upon our grammar and spelling skills. We have loved learning about forces and motions in our science time. We will begin to build a rollercoaster as we explore the topic more February is also the month of parent-teacher conferences and we hope to see everyone there!
Hello Fourth Grades Families!
As we dive into our second month of quarter 3, we are excited for many new things in class and to add to our memories! We will begin our module 4 topics which consists of fractions. It will be extremely important that your student perseveres through any challenges that they may have as we will work together to get through them. A friendly reminder that parent teacher conferences will be the week of February 19th. Be on the lookout for a link from your student's teacher to sign up for your conference time. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's teacher. We are excited to meet with everyone soon!
Hello Fifth-Grade Families,
February will be an exciting time in fifth grade. We will be finishing up all of our AmeriTowne Curriculum as well as diving into Module 4 of Eureka Math and focusing on place value concepts for decimal operations. We will also pass on some more leadership opportunities for our students with our student-led conferences during conference week in February. In reading, we will continue to strengthen their knowledge as well as challenge them more with grammar skills as well as the author's point of view, prefixes and suffixes, and adages and proverbs. Students will also begin a new writing project in February where students get to write a biography about a historical figure who made a difference to civil rights. As always, we appreciate all of the continued support this year with these wonderful fifth graders.
