Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy
20-21 Welcome Back Newsletter
Dear Columbia Crest Rainiers,
I hope that you and your loved ones are in good health and finding some time to enjoy the summer sunshine. I wanted to provide details regarding the 2020-2021 school year. I know that this is a difficult time for parents and the usual “back-to-school” routines have been disrupted for us all. I am confident that our students, parents, faculty and community stakeholders will “improvise, adapt and overcome” to make this a successful year for our students.
As always, it is an honor to be the Principal of Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy and we will do whatever it takes to ensure our student’s health and safety during this upcoming school year.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions at a.shew@eatonvilleschools.org or if I can help ease any anxiety you may be feeling about the return to school.
Stay safe, Rainiers,
Principal Shew

Distance Learning Model
Our model is built upon our beliefs and commitment to quality instruction, making personal connections with our students, and supporting high academic achievement. There will be daily “in-person” instruction happening through Google Meets as we work to ensure student learning. There will be a regular daily schedule for learning, including each of the core content areas as well as specialist experiences.
While the focus is on core academics, we are working to make sure we are tending to the social-emotional needs of our students as well as including the fun and excitement of activities and social experiences that students normally have. We are striving to provide an experience that leverages the best from our remote learning tools as well as incorporating “off-line,” hands-on experiences that get our students away from the screen for some of their learning.
Students will have daily contact with their homeroom teacher.
Daily attendance will be taken and recorded.
Student assignments will be graded.
Learning will be prioritized around essential grade level standards.
Live learning is scheduled in time blocks so families know when they are occurring. Recorded videos will be accessible for later viewing if students are unable to participate.
We are using four main platforms this year:
The Eatonville School District Core Four include:
1. Google Classroom (3-12) and Seesaw (K-2) a place where current assignments can be found
2. Google Drive (the application used for files, documents and sheets to be stored)
3. Google Meets (the application used for live lessons and class meetings)
4. ScreenCastify (the application for making videos) Teachers record asynchronous lessons and post to Google Classroom.Welcome to CCA from your Student Council

Grab & Go Meal Service
We are launching a new “Grab & Go” food program for currently enrolled Eatonville School District Preschool-12th grade students.
Parents will be able to pick up a package of food for the week including breakfast and lunches.
Preorder for 9/2 by 8/25 using this form: bit.ly/FoodPreOrder
One order form needs to be completed for each child. Parents need to indicate the school pick up location on the order form. Parents may pick up the meals from any school site if indicated properly on the order form.
Meals will still be available for those free/reduced students that forget to pre-order.
Menus are available on the district website.
Students do not need to be present at pickup, however, names of students will need to be provided.
The student lunch account will be charged for each meal. Free and reduced status will stand until October 15th.
NEW 20-21 Free and Reduced Lunch applications are available online or in paper form at your child’s school and will be available on Skyward Family Access on 8/28/20.
To make a payment to your child’s lunch account visit Intouch.
On Wednesday, September 2nd, meals will be available for three day’s worth of breakfast and lunches.

Door Dash Pick Up
This event is a replacement of Open House and will occur over the course of the first three days of school.
While we are encouraging students who are able to check in with teachers that first week of school to do so, we will not require that until Tuesday, September 8th. The "Distance Learning" schedules will not need to be followed until 9/8. On 9/8 teachers will begin teaching and attendance will start to be tracked. The exception is for Kinder & 1st grade students as their teachers will be meeting with families and assessing students the week of 9/8.
You will have the opportunity to pick up supplies and materials from your child’s teacher. Students are encouraged to bring their Chromebook with them for troubleshooting needs. Please plan to go to the exterior door of your child’s classroom at EES/WES and walk up to the teacher’s door in the main hall at CCA. The following schedule will be followed based on your child’s last name:
September 2nd
Last Name A-I: 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.
Available to those who cannot attend any of the day times: 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m.
September 3rd
Last Name J-R: 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.
September 4th
Last Name S-Z: 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.

Hello, Columbia Crest Families,
I am so excited to be back with you all this year. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jessica Sotl and I am the school counselor at Columbia Crest. This will be my second year at CC and my sixth year as a school counselor!
I will be serving the students and families of Columbia Crest half time, as I also work at another elementary school in our district. As we are gearing up to get back to school, if you need any support or help from me, please feel free to reach out. At this time contacting me by email would be best, and you can reach me at j.sotl@eatonville.wednet.edu.
During this school year I will be helping to support our students social emotional learning with weekly lessons, activities and resources available through Google Classroom.
