December Leaves - Finishing 2023 Strong
The Tree of Possibilities is more than just a logo at Strive Center! We celebrate all the little victories - for every new skill a child learns, we give him a leaf or an apple sticker to put on his very own Tree of Possibilities poster. We keep one poster here at the center, next to his table, and one goes home, so families can celebrate all the little victories too. In December, our learners acquired 214 new skills! That brings our total for 2023 to 2,643 new skills! We are so proud of all our learners this year!
Welcome baby Sobczak!
We are so happy to share that Evey and her family welcomed their second baby girl on January 1st! Baby Gemma and mom are home and doing well, and we wish the whole family the best as they snuggle up and enjoy some quality family time!
Upcoming "Free" Day Off
We have a Professional Development day scheduled for Friday, March 1st – this will mean NO THERAPY in both buildings. We also have an opportunity for a few families to take an extra day off on Thursday, February 29th (the day before) to make a long weekend for you. We are providing Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training for our newest staff members at that time, and it requires two days.
If your family is interested in taking February 29th off to have an extra long weekend, please reach out via our Therapy Schedule Update form using the link below. When you complete the question regarding your reason for absence that day, choose “other” and type in “free day off” or similar.
This day will not count against your attendance in anyway.
We have 5 staff members in Brighton who will attend the training, and 2 in Burton, so we have a total of 7 available spots for families.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Group time is a fun time!
Snow Day Info
With winter weather upon us, this is a friendly reminder that we DO NOT follow the local schools' schedule in terms of weather related closing. There are simply too many districts and too many families coming from different locations to base our decision on the local schools.
Instead, we will choose to close when driving conditions near the center are dangerous. We will send a closing announcement via Remind, and post it on our Facebook page. Please be sure that you are signed up for our Remind classroom so that you don't miss these announcements.
We aim to make the decision to close by 6:00 AM and send out the announcement at that time. We understand that families need time to make other arrangements, and we try to remain open as much as possible throughout the winter.
If our center is open, and you feel that it is unsafe for you to drive your child in, please use our Therapy Schedule Update Form, or call the center and leave a message at 810-344-8082 ext. 1 for Brighton, ext. 2 for Burton to update as soon as you are able.
Playing Outside
We will continue to play outside in both locations throughout the winter months. Playing outside is important for our children to develop a variety of skills, including tolerance of different clothing, putting on and taking off their own winter gear, and playing with friends.
We will play outside twice daily for about 15 minutes as long as the temperature feels like 20 degrees or warmer. Please send your child's snow gear, including boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens or gloves daily when it's cold outside. The easiest way to do this is place them in a reusable grocery bag or similar and send it in each day. We will send it back home each day so that you have the gear available each evening.
If you have any questions or concerns about playing outside, please ask your BCBA.
