BJH Bobcat News
September 25-29, 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Bobcat Families,
Thank you to those who attended the Coffee with the Principal meeting last week (in person or via Zoom). We discussed what Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) are. We also discussed why our school is participating in creating and monitoring school-wide and department level WIGs. This presentation was reviewed during that meeting. Here is a copy of the presentation so that everyone understands about WIGs WIG PRESENTATION. Our October Coffee with the Principal meeting will focus on our school's Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) status with the state of California. We will define what ATSI is, how our school qualifies for this status and how BJH can exit ATSI status. Parents will learn about how to be partners with us as stakeholders during this time.
This year is a fresh start to after school athletics and student spectators. As you may know, last year BJH student spectators required adult supervision while watching after school games on campus. I made this decision due to some inappropriate behavior by various groups of BJH students. While parents/adults will still need to accompany student spectators at away games (per league rules), I have decided to allow students to watch home games without a parent/guardian. The following are expectations for all BJH student spectators:
maintain appropriate behavior on campus
stay in a visible spot on campus during game time
exhibit good sportsmanship as a spectator by showing respect to players and fans
use appropriate language for school and school events
maintain personal space (self to self)
Students who chose not to abide by these expectations will speak to an administrator and be escorted off campus. I value that our students want to support their friends during games and I appreciate the partnership in ensuring that our school is represented well at all events.
Lastly, drop off and after school pick-up is a topic that needs to be revisited throughout the school year. I realize there are numerous drop off and pick-up points that parents establish to avoid the traffic loop before and after school. In addition to safety, it is important that our BJH students are respectful when off campus. Our school is part of the Brea community and it is important that our students represent themselves in a respectful manner. Although this list below is not an all inclusive list of things to consider, please keep the following in mind so that everyone is safe and respect is shown for business patrons:
- follow all traffic safety laws including speed limits and parking regulations
- avoid stopping on lambert to let your student out of the car
- the parking lot off of Lambert is for staff parking and drop off for students with special physical accommodations and needs ONLY. These students have pre-approval based on programatic needs
- students should not enter local businesses unless there is intent to purchase
- students should not block walkways, doorways of businesses
- students should use respectful language with business patrons and avoid interacting with people they do not know
- avoid using bikes, scooters and skateboards in parking lots or sidewalks of local businesses
- avoid parking in or using local residential property for turnabouts (this includes the apartments off of Brea Blvd.)
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership. Speaking to your student regularly and adhering to expectations will help with safe drop off and pick-up.
