Dear Eatonville Staff and Community,

This will be the final newsletter from your Interim Superintendent as we send our students off for a fun filled summer and give our staff some needed respite from a busy school year. The District is already planning for August activities to get ready for the 23-24 school year and they will be here before we know it.

The pool project is underway, all the prep for the new deck surfacing is done and the best part is coming. Students at the high school chose the surface color in an informal survey and we hope you will like it as well. The portable at WES which has been a storage facility for the past few years and thought to be on its way to demolition is a thing of beauty thanks to our own maintenance staff. We saved so much money! An unused portable is being moved from EHS to a spot between EMS and EES to house a special education program that serves both schools. It also will receive a face lift and again save the district money. Unused is unfortunately neglected so it is important to keep what we own in good condition. There are projects for now and for summer all over the district.

EMS sports schedules will look different next year as the school has joined another athletic league. To better utilize and share the facilities we have, you will see baseball (new next year) in the fall and football in the spring. We are excited to add middle level soccer for boys as well. The schedule is posted at the bottom of this newsletter.

The School Board will hold their meeting on June 28th and hear the End of Year reports from our Student Services Department (Cristin Blaskowitz) and Teaching and Learning (Sally Keely). There is no Work Study the second week of July, but a regular meeting on July 26th. We will welcome Jay Brower as the new superintendent.

Sometimes we do something and then kind of forget about it if nothing comes of it in a timely manner. That is what I did after writing a grant earlier. I just received a call that we received the grant I wrote for two commercial refrigerators so that we can better store our fresh fruits and vegetables for our food program. A check for $44,500 will be coming our way from AgWEST. It is so exciting to find resources that directly benefit our students. Five states could apply for this money and we along with Enumclaw and Sitka, AK were the three districts chosen.

Graduation for EHS was a beautiful event! Amy Sturdivant and her crew at EHS created a great night for our students to mark their achievements. Many other graduations (promotions, bridges or moving up) events packed out gyms and marked achievements from the past year. Parents, grandparents and friends were there to cheer. The time and effort that goes into these special events is amazing - moments captured forever!!

Our District Website is being updated and revamped. We hope you will find it more user friendly as well as have all the information you need to be involved in the programs in the District.

As part of the new look, Erik Swartout and his CTE classes at EHS have created a video that will appear on the website entitled “Why Eatonville?” While designed to be informative to people thinking about moving to Eatonville, I wanted to share it with everyone as it really showcases our beautiful community and the very special place that houses our schools. This is your Summer Send-Off!

Tremendous thanks to Mr. Erik Swartout for creating the "Why Eatonville" video to highlight the Eatonville School District for prospective families.

Erik spent hours interviewing staff and students, flying his drone to capture aerial footage and putting it altogether to make the professional quality video.

His CTE students traveled the district with him and took pictures of students, staff and school campuses to help replace outdated content on the website.

• All school buildings will be closed for maintenance from Friday, July 7th - August 4th.

• Building principals return to the office on Tuesday, August 8.

• Secretaries will return to the office on Tuesday, August 22.

• All school offices will be open to the public beginning Tuesday, August 22 from 8am-3pm

• All school offices are closed on August 23 and August 29 for training.

• All school offices are closed on September 4 for Labor Day.

• The District Office will be closed for ALICE training on August 29.

• During the summer, the District Office will be open from 8am-4pm Monday through Friday, beginning July 5 through August 18 (closed July 3 and 4).

• Special Olympics at EHS on July 15 in the commons, gyms, pool and stadium

• Girls Basketball Camp at EHS July 24-July 27 in the commons and gyms

• Boys Basketball Camp at EHS July 24-26 in the commons and gyms

• Dance Camp at EHS at EHS August 1-3 in the commons

• Consejo Counseling at EMS Mondays in July in the office conference room

Career and Technical Education is available to students in grades 7-12 in Eatonville School District. CTE consists of classes where students learn skills they can apply in the work world. A student taking a CTE class can take courses ranging from farm management to computer science courses to culinary arts and many courses in between. Career and technical education courses teach to industry standards, so students will be able to apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom to the real-world. CTE classes help students prepare for the future by learning valuable skills to make them more employable.

CTE courses at the middle school level help students explore many areas of interest and help them to discover what classes they would like to take at the high school. Career and Technical Education classes at the high school allow students to dive deeper into areas they are interested in. At the high school level students are able to obtain free college credits and industry certifications by taking CTE classes. By taking Career and Technical Education courses students gain valuable lifelong skills that will help them for many years to come.

A large crowd of parents, visitors and the School Board was treated to a showcase of Career and Technical Education displays and demonstrations from the high school, middle school and GRITS programs at the school board work study. Teachers and students were on hand to share and answer questions. This interactive event was organized by Kelly Powell, CTE Director following her power point presentation. She also highlighted the expansion of the program next year with additional opportunities for students at all levels. Kelly gave a shout out to Allison Burslem who secured $9,200 for Project Lead the Way at CCA which means it is at all schools now.

Eatonville School District is pleased to announce there will be a free, two-day, "Summer Learning Camp" for incoming kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade students.

• Date and Time: Monday, August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th from 9:00am-1:00pm.
• Camp information will be published to families this morning.
• Families will use this link or may scan the QR code on the flyer to register their child for camp.
  
• The camp provides students the opportunity to become familiar with their new campus, meet staff, make new friends and extend their learning. While enjoying a mix of hands-on, outdoor activities students will feel part of a team and will leave excited for the 23-24 school year at their new school.
• All five school buildings will host their own camp. Please direct specific questions to building principals.
• Food service will provide sack lunches for both days.

We are pleased to announce we are offering a new incentive for new bus drivers:

• New applicants who come to the District already holding a CDL with all required school bus endorsements who are recommended for a bus driver position are eligible for a one-time $3,000 salary bonus, once their hire is approved by the school board.
• The $3,000 salary bonus will apply only to drivers who would not need to go through a driver training program in Eatonville.
• New applicants who come to the District, complete the District’s CDL training program, and are recommended for a bus driver position, are eligible for a one-time $2,500 salary bonus, once their hire is approved by the school board.

Will your child be 3 years old by August 31st, 2023? If so, please register for Preschool to secure your child's placement as space is limited. Once we reach our capacity registration will close for next school year.
