Wasco Weekly
THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
May 19, 2023
Wasco Families,
The end of the school year is a great time to reflect on our accomplishments. It is my pleasure to serve Wasco School and work every day to ensure our students, staff, and community work in concert to provide a Safe and Kind environment where all can Work Hard and Do the Right Thing (our Wasco Expectations). Every year, we are in the front seats to watch the children grow and increase their own independence in learning and social skills. How the students use their independence is a particular interest of mine. We want our students to have the confidence and reassurance that the adults are hear to listen, encourage, and ask questions to challenge their ideas.
This year, a group of students approached me with an interest to start their own club. We met to discuss the club's purpose, goals, and how to solicit members. Next, the students and I worked together to recruit members, and the Environment Club was born, and now has 17 members. Our club is interested in planting around the school, organizing cleanup efforts, and raising money to benefit a larger cause. This year, we discussed the topics of reduce, reuse, and recycle and then created bird houses from recycled materials. When you visit campus, you can see our work.
This club is very special to me because it represents our school environment. Wasco Elementary is a place where kids are known, feel safe, and their ideas are valued. Our whole staff works in tandem to ensure connection and belonging for all of our students and it shows in the students. Go Wolves!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie Brennan
Principal

iReady Results
Today, the following assessments will be sent home in your child's backpack:
Grades K-5: iReady results for Reading and Math
The iReady report is an end of year check on how students are progressing towards their growth goal. The test is adaptive, and now your child's personalized pathway is adjusted according to their achievement. The purpose of the i-Ready diagnostic is not to give your child a score or grade, but to determine how to best support their learning. If you have questions about any of the reports sent home, or about your child's learning goals and progress, please contact the classroom teacher.
Attention 5th Grade Families - Clap Out Information
As part of our events to honor and recognize our 5th graders, we are excited to invite our 5th-grade parents to our annual tradition, the Fifth Grade Clap Out.
During the Clap Out, Fifth-grade parents stand in designated areas outside on the last day of school while Wasco Elementary students and staff “Clap Out” the 5th-grade students in a celebration of their transition to Middle School. As part of the celebration, students and their parents are invited to wear their middle school T-shirt. This celebration will occur at 2:44 on May 26th.
We hope you can join us for the festivities, enjoy the friendships, and share memories with fellow Wasco community members!
