The Eagle Eye
Children are the heart of Imlay!
Dear Imlay Families,
From Principal McCalley
Sorry for the late in the day arrival of this newsletter. With information changing rapidly regarding metrics and vaccines, my last two weeks have been full of planning meetings. I want to welcome you to the last week of the semester! I can hardly believe the year is flying by so quickly. This Friday 1/29, and Monday 2/1 are no school days, as our teachers prepare report card grades and plan for semester 2 instruction.
Assignments submitted after Friday will not count towards students' semester 1 grades. Please check in with your child's google classroom, to see if there are any outstanding assignments they could be completing this week.
Please reach out to the office staff or myself if there is anything you need. We are here to help.
Yours in Eagle Pride,
Jen McCalley

Return to School Information--Updates!
Dear HSD Students, Staff, and Families,
Following is this week’s return-to-school planning update.
First, we wanted to clarify that these updates are not meant to be exhaustive from week-to-week; they are intended to build upon or update previously shared information, deliver new information, and reinforce key messages. Also, a lack of specificity around exact dates when students will return should not be interpreted as a lack of transparency - there are quite simply things we just don’t know at any given time. We are working and preparing based on tentative dates, but due to the changing nature of the virus; the vaccine; and the guidance from federal, state, and county-level authorities, we need to remain flexible and adaptable to current circumstances.
At their meeting last night, our School Board unanimously agreed to make staff access to COVID vaccination a condition of students’ return to hybrid instruction. That means the District will provide sufficient time and logistical support to allow all staff members who are interested in the opportunity to receive both doses of the vaccine and go through the recommended waiting period to reach full immunity before being required to physically return to work. Staff are not required to be vaccinated; however, we are encouraging it as vaccination is a critical tool for slowing the spread of COVID in our community, along with mask-wearing, hand washing, maintaining physical distance, and avoiding contact with people who are ill.
The table below shows our draft timeline, based on our current information about vaccine availability in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties.
See timeline below!
According to this timeline, we would be bringing PreK-2 students back for in-person learning on Monday, March 29. Please keep in mind that our ability to bring students back on this date also relies on the COVID case rate in Washington County for the two weeks leading up to that date being at or below 350 per 100,000 of population, and our ability to meet required health and safety guidelines. Assuming we can remain at or below the 350 case rate, we would be able to expand to grades 3-6 in the manner shown over the two subsequent weeks.
Expanding to middle and high school students will require our COVID case rate to be at or below 200 per 100,000 of population.
Our ability to successfully bring students back will also rely on accurate information from all families. Please expect a survey within the next two weeks where we will ask you to indicate:
· Whether your child(ren) will be returning to in-person learning or remaining in CDL* (*Students enrolled at HOA for the spring semester will remain in HOA through the end of the school year.)
· Whether your child(ren) will need bus transportation to school or if they can get themselves to school.
In next week’s update on Wednesday, Feb. 3, we will share more information about the instructional model that will be used when students return to in-person instruction, daily health screening protocols, and more.

Immunization Exclusion Day is Feb. 17
Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities, and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every facility that provides care for a child outside of the home requires immunizations or a medical or nonmedical exemption to remain enrolled.
Children who are not current on their immunizations by Feb. 17, 2021, will be excluded from school until their immunizations are updated. During Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), this means students will be put on a list and will not be allowed on campus for any reason until they have received the necessary immunizations (i.e. no limited-in-person activities, no hybrid learning, no in-person learning, no athletics or activities, no school events, and no afterschool programs such as BLAST).
Students and families in HSD can access immunizations at the District’s School-based Health Center on Century High School’s campus, as well as through their own healthcare providers.
COVID vaccines are not required for children and, in fact, the vaccines that have been approved by the FDA are not intended for children. However, the National Association of School Nurses has issued a statement in support of vaccination against COVID-19 for individuals 16 years of age and younger.
