Wrangler Weekly
Week of October 9, 2023
Message from Ms. Bratton, principal
Monday is a holiday for students and will allow our teachers time to plan and prepare for students' academic growth. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and fall temperatures!
Please take a minute this weekend to sign up for course selection with our SBMS counselors -- see below.
We are excited to share that our Wranglers READ program is soaring to greatness: students have been randomly assigned a color group and have been challenged to read and read and read. So far, Wranglers have read a total of 896 books in seven weeks!! Woohoo!! One week to go until SBMS knows which color team is getting the GRAND PRIZE for the first quarter! Remind your Wrangler to READ this long weekend.
Another thing to remind your Wrangler about this weekend is the Reflections contest on the theme "I am hopeful because..." SBMS is determined to again lead the district in submissions. Our Wranglers are BOLD and true -- BOLD enough to put their creativity on display and true enough to themselves and their talents to put in the work. We hope every student will have a submission as there are such a variety of categories: visual art(drawing/graphic design), photography, writing (poetry/stories), dance choreography, musical composition, film production. See below for details. This long weekend is a great time to get creative!
The end of the grading period is Friday, Oct. 13. Please check Skyward and help your student make a plan, if needed, for finishing the quarter strong.
GOOD LUCK TO COACH SHERRARD & OUR RUNNING WRANGLERS!
LET'S GOOOOO CROSS COUNTRY!
TAKE DISTRICT TOMORROW!
Go Wranglers!

PTA CORNER
CLOTHES & SHOES RECYCLING BIN
Now that we’re back to school, it’s time to get rid of clothes and shoes that don’t fit! The Bins at SBMS are ready for you! Simply drop those items off and feel the “whew!”
While you’re at it, any other textile items that need a new home can go, too! Jackets, undergarments, shoes of any type, accessories and handbags are welcome!
The school benefits from donations and you get more room in your closets…it’s a win-win!
Just drive on through the drop-off/pick-up line on the Arlon Seay side of the building and you’ll see the Bins.
FILL THE GAP
The SBMS Staff does so much for our kids and community. Let's show them our love and support by stocking their Break Room with all their favorites! There are about 100 staff members. A little birdie told us some things they'd love to have...you will see those items on the sign-up.
Providing supplies and snacks for students in need is also a part of the PTA's mission. You will find some of those items on the sign-up, as well.
Please drop off the items to the front office at your convenience and let them know it's for "Fill the Gap." Contact Chris Slowey for questions or more information at clslowey@yahoo.com.
CORPORATE SPONSORS
SBMS is looking for community partners! If you, or someone you know, is interested, please let PTA know. We would love to work with you!
Thank you for considering a sponsorship at SBMS. Your donation will go a long way in helping us provide necessary supplies and support to students and staff at SBMS.
The PTA supports all programs and departments at SBMS, so your donation will go even further.
Businesses like yours ensure our success each year, and we thank you for your consideration and support.
Should you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact sbmsptaevents@gmail.com.
SOCKTOBER STARTS NOW!
Socktober is coming! The contest begins October first and goes until October 31st. Get ready for some friendly competition between grade levels!
Please bring new and unopened socks and underwear and new stretchy athletic shorts and pants to school for donations to CISD PTA's Clothes Closet. Kids and adult sizes are needed for males and females. The donation boxes will be located next to the stage.
The winning grade will be determined by the weight of donations. Who will win?!?!
OCTOBER STUDENT MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
We have another treat coming up for our student PTA members! 👻
Students who are currently members and those who join by October 30th will receive a special Halloween treat during Wrangler Time on October 31st!
Our goal is to achieve “Every Child. One Voice.” PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
