Snowflake Challenge
Students at Manning are collecting snowflakes- not the kind that melt - but glittery ones that are rewarded to classes for their respectful behavior in the hallway that honors their fellow student's learning. The school is embracing this challenge as a community. Snowflakes can only be rewarded from other staff and teachers in the building, not the classes' own homeroom teachers. The administrators and teachers want to help students feel a part of a larger learning community and encourage everyone to partner together to create a respectful, safe and responsible community that notices and encourages the good!
And the winner was... Mrs. Parsetich's 3rd Grade Class!
5th Grade Respect Challenge - Round 2
- What does it look like?
- What does it sound like?
- How do you show it to peers, adults, teachers, etc?
Our 5th graders participated in two great rounds that focused on leading the school in what RESPECT is. Our classroom winners were Mrs. Walsh's and Mrs. Smith's homerooms.
Why was this challenge so powerful that we decided on two rounds? Originally, adults were the ones giving out recognition. The power of the challenge shifted when students started coming up to adults stating that specific peers should be getting recognized because they were seeing it too! When students look outside of themselves and are able to recognize the greatness in others, they are beginning to grow into future leaders!
When we return from Winter Break, we will have our 5th graders create and lead a similar challenge for our entire school.
