Meal Order
You may have already filled out this week's choices but here is the link in case you did not get to it yet:
Below you will find the form to complete before Monday morning at 7:30am for ordering breakfast and lunch for your student/s. Click on the button and help your child make their food choices for the two weeks. Thank you
Dear Families,
It was great so many of you were able to make it in for conferences on Tuesday even as the snow closed in. The conference window is open through 2/9. It is not too late to schedule a time with your child’s teacher if you haven't already.
FYI - Breakfast/Lunch Order - The order form covered two weeks, through 1/26. If you haven’t filled it out you can still do so for next week.
4/5 French Classes After School! - French classes will be offered after school from 2:45 to 3:45 on Mondays starting January 29th. The classes are for 4th and 5th graders and will be at the beginner level. They will include a new lesson each week followed by games and role plays. The classes will be taught by 5th grade parent Ophelia Eglene who is a native of France. A permission slip will be sent home today. If your child would like to participate, please sign and return to the school.
Families Together - Please see the linked flyer for the revised series. There will be four sessions. While it would be ideal for folks to come to all of them, Mrs. Hayyat, our school counselor, has designed the sessions so that they can be standalone. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Dates and topics:
February 29th - Parenting Without Shame: We Are All Trying Our Best
March 14th - Child Development: Are We Expecting Too Much?
April 11th - The Importance of Play in Parenting: The Power of Acceptance
April 11th - Navigating Big Feelings
We still need lunch volunteers! - We’re definitely doing better but we still need next Monday and Wednesday covered. Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org if you can help with lunch prep and service, 11:00-12:00. Even one day helps. Those of you who have volunteered before, can go into the google doc and sign up. Thank you!
Reminder - Please be sure to call the school and/or email Samantha AND me if there are changes in our child’s after school plans. Emailing both of us will help to ensure we get the message. Thanks so much.
Ice Skating Rink - The rink surface is a bit rough, but basically good to go this weekend. If your family comes to skate, helmets are required and CLOSE supervision. Please do not plan on playing hockey. If there are no other skaters, parent and child passing a puck can work.
Recess Skating: We hope to have skating as a recess option on a rotating basis for classes, starting Monday (1/22) morning. Participation, of course, is voluntary.
Monday morning recess: K and 4/5 buddies.
Monday afternoon recess: 1 and 4/5 buddies
Tuesday morning recess: 2/3
Wednesday morning recess: 4/5
Schedule for the rest of the week will be sent out Monday.
We need some help.
A person or two to come in on Monday morning to help size and sort the skates and helmets.
If your child has skates and/or a helmet, please send them to school with them.
If you have extra skates you can lend/give to the school, please send those in as well. If they're on loan, be sure to have your name in them.
If you can come in at recess times to help with getting skates on/off and supervising, please email Samantha and me. Please plan on coming a little early. Morning recess: 10:50-11:20. Afternoon recess: 1:20-1:50.
Thanks to all who have made this happen!
Warmly, Christina

Free Dental Care for ACSD Students
ACSD schools are participating in the 802 Smiles Network, which promotes dental health programs in Vermont schools. This means your child is eligible for a free dental screening at school and may be eligible to receive preventive dental services at no cost to you. All you have to do is to fill out the online consent forms by February 1st, 2024. We also have paper forms that will be sent home.
The registered dental hygienist can provide the following free services:
Dental Screening (simplified dental check-up)
Fluoride Varnish (brush-on liquid that can help prevent cavities)
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) (brush-on combination of silver and fluoride that can help stop cavities from getting bigger)
Dental Cleanings (helps keep the mouth healthy and clean!)
Oral Health Education (teaches students how to brush, floss, maintain good oral health)
Dental Sealants (a thin layer of material placed on back teeth to prevent decay)
Our schools will be served by dental hygienist, Michael Messina. If you choose to participate, Michael will send you a follow-up letter after your child’s screening explaining the services provided, whether additional treatment is recommended, and help connect you to a dental professional, if needed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school’s dental hygienist, Michael Messina at michaelmessina.rdh@gmail.com or our school nurse.

Ilsley Library Challenge
Ilsley Public Library is challenging the youth in our ACSD community to read 15 titles from the various local and state youth book award lists (Red Clover, Golden Dome, Midd Reads, and Green Mountain) between January 1st and March 31st. Tracking sheets will be sent home today. Youth who read 15 books will earn a ticket to a special movie showing at the Marquis Theater in April!
