This month’s focus is Empathy. One way to think about Empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships. Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Conversation Starters:

• Can you share or show what a good friendship means to you?
• Why do you think it is important to use Empathy with our friends?

Parents, did you know you are doing a great job if you are setting boundaries including time limits and content monitoring with technology and social media for your kids? You are! Great work and thank you! We know our kids are more likely to thrive when we, as parents, set clear parameters for their technology and social media use. A good rule of thumb for technology and social media use not related to education is ten minutes multiplied by the grade your student is in or 10 minutes for 1st graders, 20 minutes for second graders, 30 minutes for 3rd graders and so on.
