LSC Statement to the Community
Peirce Community,
At the March LSC meeting, it was brought to the attention of the LSC that protocols and norms were not followed during the March 2, 2023 LSC Equity Committee meeting. The names of certain teachers and staff members were disclosed both during the meeting and in the recorded minutes. In addition, the meeting was not recorded, as required under the existing temporary rules of the Open Meetings Act (OMA). We also learned that a communication was sent out asking that information pertaining to certain teachers be sent to an LSC email address.
Our LSC teacher representatives shared the implications of the actions above on many in our teacher community. The Peirce LSC also acknowledges that the actions above resulted in a breach of privacy as well as a violation of OMA rules.
The Equity Committee’s purpose is to be a conduit and space where parents, teachers and staff can safely share experiences, as well as all available resources that address issues of equity.
In doing so, we must always strive to maintain the privacy of all parties involved, including teachers, staff, parents, and students. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We are working to realign with our established norms, and carry on the mission and work of the Equity Committee.

LSC Chair Statement
(Statement read by the Chair during the April 20th LSC meeting, regarding Teacher Representative Resignations)
As the LSC worked to communicate these (Equity Committee) events to the school community, our LSC teacher representatives resigned from their roles on the LSC and shared their reasoning in a letter to staff and parents on the Parents of Peirce Facebook group. We want to thank them for their incredible service to the LSC as our teacher representatives and their important work in our school's classrooms. We know that trust is essential to this work, and we look forward to continuing to build trust as we work in collaboration with all Peirce stakeholders.

LSC Chairperson

Risk Taker
We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.
What can you do at home???
- If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it and have them reflect on how it felt.
- Set short term goals. Consider activities that push your child out of their comfort zone. Encourage them to offer their opinion, spend time learning a new activity, try a different food, learn a new game or even to spend time with someone they don't usually spend time with.
- Explain the difference between being a risk-taker (trying new things) and engaging in dangerous activities.
- Ask, "What's the hard part?" to identify the challenge and brainstorm ways to fix it.

Animated Short Films to watch together
Animated short films are an excellent resource for discussing risk-taking with your child. Short films are found to increase motivation through their engaging topics, visual nature and ability to evoke emotion. They make you want to laugh and cry which provides an unique opportunity for thoughtful discussion and reflection. The lack of spoken language allows these films to be accessible to all learners.
Below are three short films that allow for powerful conversation and thinking. Start with these questions to provoke thinking before viewing:
- What is the connection between risk-taking and creativity?
- How do we know we are really taking a risk?
- What's the difference between positive and negative risk-taking?
