From the Thompson Administration Team
Good Afternoon Thunder Families!
This week has been very busy at TMS as students completed their i-Ready Spring Diagnostics for Math and Reading, we hosted a track meet against Wredling Middle School and we celebrated our staff during “Staff Appreciation Week.”
Thank you to the PTO and our Thompson families for spoiling us this week! The candy bar, three delicious lunches, breakfast & coffee, and gift cards were a wonderful treat. This has been a week of feeling cared for, valued, and appreciated. Thank you from all of us!
This coming Wednesday we will be celebrating National School Nurse Day. I would like to thank our wonderful Health Office staff, Mrs. Isbrandt, Mrs. Kashuba, Mrs. Maple, and Mrs. Welker, for their tireless dedication to all of us! All of us are in good hands with these extremely skilled and caring staff members!
We are truly grateful for the wonderful staff that we have here at Thompson and truly appreciate the dedicated students that you send to us each day! The message of “Finish Strong” has been a mantra for our conclusion to the year and it has been felt as students work hard to complete tasks in preparation for the conclusion of the school year. I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

A reminder from the school nurse…
State legislation requires that all Illinois children in sixth grade will have a dental examination. A licensed dentist must perform the examination, and he or she shall sign the form. Dental offices should have the form available, but it is also available online at www.d303.org under Departments, then Health Services, then “Health Documents and Forms”. Each 6th grade student must present proof of a dental examination by a dentist prior to May 15, 2023. The exam must be dated within 18 months prior to May 15, 2023. If your child has had an exam already, you can ask your dentist to complete the form for the exam.
The Illinois Department of Public Health has established a waiver for children who show undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. Parents or legal guardians who object to the dental examinations on religious grounds shall present to the school a signed, detailed statement of the objection.

Please do not forget to pick up all medications by the last day of school! Those medicines not picked up by an adult by May 26th, will need to be disposed of. The only medications that can be given to a student to transport home are those that are allowed to be self carried (Epi Pens, Pancreatic Enzymes or inhalers). If there is a self carry form on file for one of those medications, please remind your student to stop in and pick up medication before leaving on the last day. All medication orders must be renewed each school year. Forms are linked below.
Appointments for the required 6th grade and 9th grade physicals tend to fill up quickly and should be scheduled now! Please submit the completed physicals and/or immunizations to the respective school offices as they are done. They can also be emailed to diane.isbrandt@d303.org.The form is linked below and is different then the Sport Physical form. Forms are required to be submitted for review prior to the first day of school (August 14th). Dental exams are also required for 6th and 9th grade students. They can be completed within 18 months of May 15, 2024. A vision examination and form is also required for those students transferring into TMS from outside of Illinois.
The health office is closed during the summer months. I will return for limited hours beginning in early August. Please contact me if there are new medical concerns for your child or if your child will need a health plan at school.
Have a safe and healthy summer!
