Participate and Volunteer in School Activities
How can you participate in school activities?
Volunteer during the school day in your students’ classrooms or in the school in general.
Ask the teacher what you can do at home (cutting, preparing packets, etc.).
Chaperone field trips.
Volunteer for special events during school, in the evenings, or weekends.
Be a guest reader.
Send in needed supplies.
Continue participating and volunteering in Middle and High School too!
Why is it important to participate?
When your children see you participating in school, they see that their success is important to you.
Research shows that students who have families who volunteer do better academically and behaviorally, and are more likely to finish school and continue their education.
You get to spend more time with your child.
You get to know the teachers and staff, developing relationships as partners in your child’s education.
Volunteering is good for YOUR health!
Ask your teacher or call your school to see how you can volunteer.
Visit aacps.org/volunteer for more information on the steps you need to take to volunteer.
