Letter From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We had a very active week here at MHS! From field trips to student presentations, we had it all this week. Please check out below for a couple of highlights.
Our Active Minds chapter attended the Kyle Cares Conference at Gillette Stadium which is centered around student mental health. Our Active Minds Club President, Macy Cyr, was one of three student panelists in one of the breakout sessions. Macy also had created and submitted a video about our chapter to a competition that Kyle Cares was running. At the conference, the Kyle Cares Foundation announced that the Millis Active Minds club would receive $1,000 for club activities as one of ten winners at the competition! It was an incredible event put on by the Kyle Johnson Foundation in partnership with the Patriots Foundation.
Our STEAM society student and Engineer Your World classes took a trip into Boston to the New England Aquarium. While the original trip to Natick Labs had to be cancelled, the students really enjoyed taking the train and visiting Myrtle, the giant sea turtle, at the aquarium. Check out the pictures of the trip below.
We have been busy planning our senior events and graduation. If you have a senior student here, please scroll down below to check out our end of year timeline and event schedule. We can't believe the end is quickly approaching!
Check out our March Students of the Month below. We also have some great pictures of our senior projects in action. Our students have really been putting forth their best effort!
Have a great weekend,
Patrick Nash, MHS Principal

These records may contain immunizations and other important information required by many colleges so please keep these records in a safe place. Millis High School does not keep copies of these records, or of your diploma. Giving these records to you will serve as their “destruction.” The only record we keep on file is the Official Transcript.

Senior School Emails & Google Accounts - Disabled After Graduation
Senior school emails and Google accounts will be disabled once they graduate. Access to your accounts will be terminated. If seniors wish to retain the contents of their Google Drive and/or preserve their data from various Google Apps such as Contacts, Calendar, and YouTube, they will need to utilize Google Takeout to download their files prior to graduation. Go to https://www.google.com/takeout if you wish to keep the contents of your MPS Google Drive. A set of directions has been included with this mailing to assist. Seniors will also need to create a personal email account and transfer whatever emails they want to keep. This also includes changing over any newsletters & notifications you wish to keep. Please do this soon. No reminders will be sent before emails & accounts are disabled.

Letter From The Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
What a week it has been! From course requests to the seniors starting their countdown, there was a lot of excitement around MHS this week.
Our rising sophomores, juniors and seniors submitted their course requests this week for next academic school year. Many of our students met with their school counselors, Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Knabel, to choose the best courses for them. We are really looking forward to meeting our rising 9th grade families next Thursday, April 10th, at our 8th-to-9th transition night!
There has been a lot of energy and excitement building in our seniors as their last quarter here at Millis High School began this week. Seniors started their 25 day countdown until their last full school day here before they start senior project presentations. Senior families will be receiving communications shortly on the timeline of our end-of-the-year events.
Spring sports have started off strong with a couple of early victories. Good luck to all of our sports' teams playing today! Our girls' softball team plays here at home against Hopedale today at 4:00 PM and our boys' volleyball team has a home match tonight at 5:00 PM.
A special good luck to Nathalya who will be completing her senior project this Saturday by packaging over 10,000 meals for underprivileged countries!
Congratulations to Mr. Caulfield for March's Faculty Member of the Month recognized by NHS!
Please see newsletter below for important notices and events.
Have a great weekend,
Patrick Nash, MHS Principal

Staff Member of the Month - March
The NHS’ March Staff Member of the Month belongs to Mr. Caulfield! A class with Mr. Caulfield is never boring. Every student that has taken his English class has something positive to say about him. He always has a smile on his face, whether he’s welcoming his students into class, teaching, or connecting with his students. His positive energy and strong, humorous personality keeps his students engaged in activities, books, and projects. It is clear that Mr. Caulfield cares about the success of his students, and wants to bring out the best of them academically and socially. Despite not having taught a senior class in decades, he has done an exceptional job with helping his senior students push towards completing their senior projects. He is a great resource to go to if you have questions about schoolwork, or if you just want to have a genuine conversation. Mr. Caulfield is also very active in the Millis High School community, running the Leo’s club. You will also never catch him missing a sporting event. This recognition of Staff Member of the Month is well deserved, as he will continue to create a lasting impact on his students, and community around him.
Massachusetts Student Government Day (SGD)
Daniel Sparks and Mauricio Olivares attended Student Government Day on Friday, April 4.
Massachusetts Student Government Day (SGD), held annually at the Massachusetts State House, is a program for high school juniors and seniors to learn about state government firsthand through simulated legislative processes and interactions with state officials.
Mrs Streck's Engineer Your World Honors
For the past three months, students in Engineer Your World Honors have been brainstorming, designing, and constructing earthquake-safe buildings. They were tasked with several design requirements and completed 3 different prototypes of their buildings, each one with add-ons and improvements. This past Wednesday, groups presented their final slideshows complete with their analysis of data, final conclusions, and safer building recommendations. Several groups presented solutions of x-bracing, a pendulum, base isolators, and a 3-D printed base!
Engineer Your World Honors
This week in Engineer Your World Honors, students started a new project on Electronic Music. Students used a mixture of coding skills and music theory to code a song on Arduino, a coding software. Before actually testing, students experimented on Tinkercad, a website that allows them to see their code functioning without actually building. Through the use of a speaker, a breadboard, and different wires, teams of students translated sheet music into pseudocode, and then played their song through the speaker!
Mrs Streck's Oceanography: Exploring the Physics of the Ocean
This month, students in Mrs Streck’s Oceanography class have been exploring the physics of the ocean, studying the forces that shape its movement and influence marine life. They investigated wind-driven surface currents, analyzed density-driven deep ocean currents by graphing and labeling profiles, and applied their math skills to calculate wave frequency and period. To bring it all together, they examined El Niño, studying its effects on upwelling and the marine ecosystems that depend on it. Through these activities, students are gaining a deeper understanding of the complex interactions that drive our ocean systems!
ChemClub and Chemistry II
Ms. Carlson's grade 3 class came to the High School on Tuesday for the ongoing collaboration with the ChemClub and Chem II. Students explored color and light as well as metal emission spectrums. This marks the seventh year of collaboration.
Chemistry II
Chemistry II has been exploring the nature of colorfastness in the fabric dyeing process. They have been studying synthetic and non synthetic fabrics and working with the types of bonds present in the fabrics and their dyes.
LEOs Club
On Sunday, March 30th, The Millis Leos hosted members of the Holliston, Dover Sherborn, and King Phillip Leos clubs at the Millis Amvets to make and decorate game boxes for local nursing homes. It was a huge success, resulting in 15 boxes filled with a variety of new board games and puzzles.

USEFUL INFORMATION
.........................................................................
Chromebooks
If your student’s Chromebook stops working or requires maintenance, please have them email our Tech Department at helpdesk@millisschools.org to advise they have an issue. Students can also bring their device to the Library and speak to a student at the SHOP desk. The SHOP desk is our student technology team that now handles the loaner devices. If there are no students present at the SHOP desk, please see our librarian, Mr. Carter, at the circulation desk. The same is true if they forget their device at home. They can go to the Library and borrow a device and/or charger any day school is in session as long as supply lasts. We have also created a Chromebook Care and Use Guide for everything Chromebook related.
Insurance for Chromebooks is suggested and the information can be accessed below.
School Lunch & Breakfast Free for all students
School lunch continues to be FREE to all students this year. Every student is eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each daily, and you can check out the menus here. If you feel your family qualifies for free and reduced lunch, you should still fill out the Household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2024-2025 school year. The application is used to determine qualification for free transportation, as well as waivers, such as athletic fees.
2024-25 MHS Parent/Student Handbook
Now is a great time to familiarize yourself with the 2024-25 Millis High School Parent/Student Handbook. Students will be required to sign off on the fact they read through the handbook and understand the school policies as we head into the new school year.
ATTENDANCE POLICIES
.........................................................................
Tardies
If your student is going to be late to school, a parent/guardian must contact the office, by or before 8:00 AM. The office can be reached one of the following ways:
Attendance line: 508-906-3713
Attendance email: hsattendance@millisschools.org
or you may send your student in with a note
If we don’t hear from a parent/guardian, the tardy will be unexcused. Upon arrival at school, the student should go directly to the office and sign in.
Dismissals
If your student needs to be dismissed, a parent/guardian must send their student in with a note or email the office at hsattendance@millisschools.org, listing the dismissal time and reason. Just a reminder that driving hours should not be scheduled during the school day, and do not constitute excused time away from school.
Phone calls for dismissals are not permitted.
Students are expected to check in with the office to confirm their dismissal and receive a pass. If we do not receive a note, a parent or guardian must come into the office to sign their student out at the time of dismissal. Please make every effort to adhere to this dismissal policy to minimize disruptions to class time. Please also be mindful of how a dismissal may impact your student’s eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities.
- Activities Eligibility Dismissal: If your student is involved in extracurricular activities and needs to be dismissed during the school day, they will need to provide a note from the place of their appointment (not a parental note) so they remain eligible to play or practice.
- Medical Dismissal: Any student requesting to leave for any kind of medical reason must go through the nurse’s office.
- Emergency Dismissal: In the event of a true emergency, a parent/guardian should contact the office. Every attempt will be made to expedite the dismissal. Please note, driving hours scheduled during the school day are not considered an emergency nor excusable under any circumstance. Every effort should be made to complete these hours outside of school hours.
Absence
If your student needs to be absent from school, a parent/guardian must notify the office via the attendance line at 508-906-3713 or by emailing hsattendance@millisschools.org as close to 8:00 AM as possible. If we don’t hear from a parent/guardian, the absence is unexcused and the student will be marked as truant. Attendance at school is incredibly important, and every effort possible should be made to maintain regular attendance at the high school.
