Summer 2025 Edition
Coming in August~ “Rooms”
What is Rooms?
Fall River Joint Unified is implementing a new communication tool called "Rooms". This unified communication system is for parents and guardians to communicate with their child’s teachers. Rooms is accessible through the Fall River Joint Unified app.
Once you have registered for the app, students will automatically be enrolled in a Room for each of their classes, synced directly from Aeries! No more join codes to learn. Rosters will update automatically for all of your students' classes, including a school-level and district-wide Room!
Why Rooms?
We want you to be informed about your student's education, so we looked into a new and easier way of communicating.
Rooms eliminates the need for multiple apps like ClassDojo, Remind, and others like them. One platform for all of K-12.
Download the app in the Apple Store and Google Play!
Incoming TK-K
Dear TK and Kinder Families,
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we wanted to inform you that the dismissal time for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten students will be 1:15PM.
Research and experience show that younger students benefit from a shorter instructional day as they adjust to the school environment.
Benefits of a Shortened Day:
✅ Supports Social-Emotional Growth – Helps prevent fatigue and overwhelm.
✅ Maximizes Learning – Ensures students are engaged during their most attentive hours.
✅ Smooth Transition – Helps children gradually adjust to a full school schedule.
We value the input provided from our families that participated in the survey earlier this year. There are three options to choose from in the online form. Please choose the one that best meets your family's needs.
Please complete this online form to let us know which of the following plans you are choosing for your child. If you need to change the choice over summer, please email taderman@frjusd.org.

School Site Council 2025 - 2026 - We are seeking 3 Parents!
What are the roles of the School Site Council (SSC)?
A School Site Council must be established at all California Schools. The elected members of the SSC represent parents, students, community members, and school staff in school governance. By state law, the SSC must oversee the site-based budgeting of categorical funds and the development and monitoring of the SPSA. The SSC is expected to:
Review and analyze student data.
Solicit community input, including feedback from the ELAC.
Assist the principal in developing the Academic Plan and school site budget.
Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the SPSA on an ongoing basis.
Approve categorical funding (Title I) in the BSC/SPSA and/or review the school site budget (schools without Title I) before it is submitted to the District for final review and approval.
-We meet 4 - 6 times per year.
-Meeting dates - 3rd Wednesday of the Week 2:45 - 3:45PM.
-Election will take place in May.

Join Raider Family Committee:
Along with our amazing teachers and staff at Burney Elementary School, parents play an important role within the school community. A great way to contribute to this community is to become involved with the RFC. The RFC works to build strong relationships among parents, teachers and the school administration in support of students. When you join the RFC you become part of a network of parents and teachers working to enhance our children’s educational experience at Burney Elementary.
What do we do?
- Plan events
- Plan fundraisers
- Have voice on school plans and programs
Why Join the RFC?
- Benefit your child: Research has proven that children perform better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.
- Advocate for change: RFC participation can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at BES.
- Stay connected: RFC events are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, build connections and discuss issues that are on your mind.
There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school and be a part of making our school a better place for our kids to thrive and learn. Although welcomed and suggested, joining the RFC does not require any volunteer time on your part.
Native Parent Council
The purpose of the Native American Parent Committee is to assure parent participation in providing programs and services for Native American students. The Parent Committee will also be instrumental in providing parents who have Native American students with information and opportunities to effectively express their views concerning all aspects of education that affect their children.
WHY ATTEND:
1. Learn about our current BES Native Education program
2. Planning Field Trips, Special Programs, Assemblies for Native students
3. Planning Family Movie Night to show “Gather” https://gather.film
4. Overview of school initiatives and events
5. Open forum to discuss parent concerns and suggestions.
Safety is our highest priority!
The safety of your child and all children in our schools as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures.
The students and staff of our school will be practicing emergency drills throughout the year. They are “FIRE DRILLS”; “EARTHQUAKE DRILLS”; “LOCKDOWN DRILLS”; “SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILLS”, and “EVACUATION DRILLS”. Each type of drill is explained below.
FIRE DRILLS
The school will conduct a “fire drill” each month that school is in session. This is a Fire Code requirement as well as a requirement for all California public schools. We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of this drill and not be afraid when the fire alarm is sounded. By practicing they will know what to do and how to do it.
EARTHQUAKE DRILLS
The school will conduct regular earthquake drills. Students will be taught to “Drop,” “Cover,” and “Hold On.” They will also be taught how to keep themselves safe if outside the building during an earthquake.
LOCKDOWN DRILLS
The school will conduct “Lockdown Drills” periodically throughout each school year. This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a “lockdown drill” all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building during our drill.
SOFT LOCKDOWN/SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILLS
The “Soft Lockdown/Shelter-in-Place” drill will be conducted each school year. The purpose of this drill is to be prepared to move to a safe location within our building in case of severe weather or as a precaution if there is a danger in the neighborhood.
EVACUATION DRILLS
During an “Evacuation Drill”, students will be safely escorted along a designated evacuation route to one of our pre-determined evacuation sites. At the conclusion of the drill, all students will be escorted back to the school.
In the event of an actual Emergency :
-In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive notification where to pick up your child as soon as possible.
-We will notify parents by phone call, text, email and the BES Facebook page.
-Please make sure that your contact information is current at all times so that you can be reached without delay in the event of an emergency.
-Do not call the school offices (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency)
-Do not contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency)
-Avoid personal social media posts. Correct information will be disseminated through our automated system as soon as possible.
How to Pick Up Your Child in the Event of a Real Emergency:
1. Instructions for picking up children will be made available through the texts, phone calls, emails and BES Facebook.
2. In most cases, the school will be locked during and immediately following a crisis. No one, other than emergency personnel, will be allowed to enter until it is determined that conditions are safe.
3. When it is safe to release students, there will be a reunion plan. Parents/Guardians need to be prepared to check in at the reunion site with identification.
4. Students will not be released to anyone other than their parents (or an individual listed on the child’s emergency card).
We will be discussing our Safety procedures and plan at the upcoming School Site Council meeting on Wednesday, October 18th at 3:15pm and 10/18 at the Raider Family Commitree 5:30pm. Parents, Grandparents and Guardians are welcome to join us.
If you have any questions regarding any of these Safety Drills or other safety concerns, please contact your school office, or Principal Aderman.
Parent/Grandparent Volunteers
We are very excited when parents, grandparents and community members want to volunteer and help in our school and classrooms. We think student safety is very important and have procedures in place to provide a safe learning environment for our students.
If you are interested in volunteering your time, please, stop by our BES Office to fill out an application.
FRJUSD School Board policy requires all regular classroom volunteers become “cleared” volunteers by submitting an application, a current TB test, and be fingerprinted. *Fingerprinting fees are paid for by FRJUSD.
