NAMS Soar & Achieve Newsletter
January 9, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! As we kick off the New Year and Semester, we are excited to share the latest updates and events in our January newsletter. As our 8th-grade students approach a crucial transition in their academic journey, we want to highlight the upcoming high school course registration process which begins on January 22, 2024. It’s an excellent opportunity for them to explore their interests and plan for the next chapter of their education. Our continued focus on academic achievement remains, and we are committed to providing the support and resources needed for your child’s success. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of student well-being, and fostering an environment of kindness, dignity and respect where each student can thrive emotionally and socially. Here’s to a fantastic start to the year ahead!
Warmest regards,
Mr. Kevin L. Freeman Sr.

Substance Use Student Survey Parent Preview & Opt-Out Info
The purpose of the Substance Use Survey is to collect information on drug, alcohol, and tobacco use among students in New Albany Plain Local Schools. A long-term goal is to monitor the trends in alcohol and drug habits in the community. Students in grades 7, 9, and 11 will be completing the anonymous survey during the survey window of January 24-31, 2024. Parents can preview the survey for grades 7 - 12.
District and building results will be shared with parents at a future Board of Education meeting and through the building newsletters. Parents may opt their student(s) out of the survey by completing this opt-out form.
Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Parents, it is important to remember that when dropping off your students in the morning, we use a single-line drop-off system. This means no cars should pass other cars in the drop-off line. Also, students should not be dropped off in the parking lot. It is crucial for the safety of our children and staff members that we follow this procedure to ensure that everyone arrives at school safely. Below is a short video explaining the drop-off process.

Happy January,
We would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all the PTO members who donated gift cards for our Holiday gift! Also shout out to these special donors:
*Brett Rozancyzk and Sarah McFadden 15+ gift cards each
*Erin Worthington with Dearfoam slippers
We were able to give every staff member of the NAMS a gift card and a special comfy gift (slippers, candle, lotion or wash)!
Teachers and Staff are filling out wish-list forms, so be on the lookout for an Amazon wishlist to help PTO fill their classroom wishes!
Our middle school students have been working to achieve the goal of reading 1,000,000 pages.
Our librarian, Ms Kellett along with Mr Freeman have been hard at work on a reading contest between the 7th and 8th graders. Each week students check in and Ms Kellet awards certain readers from each grade level a prize. Her current stash is running low and we would love your help. All you have to do is click this amazon link and the candy will be shipped directly to the NAMS library. Simple and easy. Who doesn't want to reward our kids for reading? I know I do.
Spring Dance: our next dance will be Friday, April 12th! More details will follow soon.
It is never too late to sign up to become a member of the PTO. Click here for more information on how to join!
