PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE …

The 2023-2024 school year is under way and we have already accomplished many things. We are experiencing a huge boost of school pride, spirit, sportsmanship, and an even stronger focus on academics and student success. I am very proud of the senior leadership and the work of our student council advisor, Laura Tolzmann! Luke Sharon, our ASB President; Ashley Kerns, our ASB Vice-President; Bradley Gilmore, our ASB Secretary; and Nathan Edmonds, our ASB Treasurer have done an extraordinary job of leading our Student Council and our entire student body. I’d also like to mention and commend our senior class officers: Marcus Davis, President; Aspen Boykin, Vice President; Gabbie Henkel, Secretary; and Reese Merk, Treasurer. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and thank our entire senior class for setting such high standards and expectations for positive behaviors. I can tell you that this tight knit community of young adults has been a huge support to our entire student body.

Nothing portrays this LCHS class of 2024 better than the completely student-organized Senior Sunrise 2024 Event on September 7th. It was 5:45am when I arrived on scene. Before the sun had even peeked over the mountains, a huge group of well over half our senior class were gathered at Honeysuckle Beach to enjoy the sunrise together! Arm in arm, groups of seniors drank hot cocoa, ate some fruit and donuts, took videos and photos and anticipated the school year ahead of them. It was one of the most powerful moments of my 25+ year career in education! I believe our seniors are a truly special group of young people. I am deeply honored to be able to experience these special high school moments with this class! Here we go class of 2024!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Lake City High School Booster Club for their hard work and generosity. Our annual Cruisin’ For Kids Dinner and Auction will once again be a fun night and it is always a huge success. The dinner and auction supports our sports and activities programs, teachers’ classroom projects, and staff appreciation programs with much needed funding. We appreciate our Booster President, Steve Jeanselme, for his leadership!!! I introduced teachers who are new to our Timberwolves’ family this year at the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce’s New Educator Reception a couple weeks ago at North Idaho College. Many thanks to the Coeur d’Alene Chamber’s Education Committee for the wonderful reception and generous gifts for our new teachers. Our very own Lake City High School Multimedia teacher, Brad Kerr, presented a keynote address that had us all laughing, crying and reminded us why we became educators! As the Coeur d’Alene School District 2023 High School Educator of the Year, Mr. Kerr shared his inspirational story with us and was the highlight of the evening! We are so proud of Mr. Kerr and we thank him for his dedication to our district’s educators, students and families!

After an incredibly busy hiring season we are very excited to welcome 14 teachers of varying education, experience and content areas joining our ranks! Heather Portue, Julianne Chartier, Jackson Fuller, Valerie Hayes, Katie Swant, Christopher Ward, LuAnn Cummings, Frederic Dugenet, Caleb Morton, Nicholas Kittilstved, Azure Wilson, Tahnee Meehan, Pepper Dahlke and Byron Hout joined our family. This is a talented, smart, caring and energetic group of teachers who bring a great deal of expertise to our school! We are so very proud of our Lake City High School teachers! We also proudly welcome our new academic counselor, Nicole Rader and our counseling secretary, Karina Calderwood, to our spectacular counseling team. And, finally, we have some new team members in our administrative offices. We are proud to announce that Kennadie Shaber, one of our language arts teachers, accepted our halftime Dean of Students position. Mrs. Shaber will continue to educate our students in her classroom the first half of the day then serves our students from her office in the attendance area during the second half of the day. Mrs. Shaber is a welcome addition to our administrative team. Teri Winger also joined our administrative support team! She serves as our assistant treasurer, handling all of our financial business. She is Gonzaga University educated with a degree in business administration and brings many years of accounting experience to the role. Welcome to all of our new T-Wolf family members!

I would like to invite each one of you to come to Lake City High School and visit your students’ teachers on Thursday, November 9th from 4pm – 7:00 pm at LCHS Parent-Teacher Conference Night. At 7pm, after conferences conclude, I will be in the library for a principal’s meet and greet from 7pm-7:30pm. I will be available to visit with parents and answer any questions you might have. I look forward to seeing you then!

Do not forget that our next Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting is Tuesday, October 17th from 5:30pm-6:30pm. All families are welcome! Please feel free to join us in our LCHS Library for a one-hour informational meeting. We had a wonderful first meeting in September with more than 20 parents gathered to hear reports from our ASB President and Vice President, a report from our counseling department and a principal’s report followed by a question/answer session. Our 6 meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday of the month in September, October, January, February, March and April

Dear LCHS Parents, Students and Families,

We have a unique opportunity at LCHS to serve students who are considering a career in the field of Education. We offer a University of Idaho Dual Credit Course (3 free College Credits) entitled, Introduction to Education. It is offered each semester for Juniors and Seniors who are considering a career in ANY capacity in education, whether it is childcare, child psychology or instruction! Student participants get to work in classrooms around the district and engage in learning alongside elementary students and staff, as well as visit higher education institutions and learn about college level classes. Students also get to work in some Secondary classrooms in Learning Labs. Additionally, students will learn alongside our veteran teacher, Mrs. Blank, who has experience at both the elementary and secondary level, as well as professional level learning for educators. The feedback about this course has been tremendously positive.

We are anxious to support students who are considering work in this very important field. If you or your student are curious to know more please contact your counselor or Mrs. Blank at sblank@cdaschools.org, or encourage them to request this course for the Spring!

Obviously we are biased, but we believe the Field of Education is one of the most rewarding and impactful professions! It is our hope to inspire future educators who will in turn inspire our future workforce!
